Default Fuel Gauge Correct?

Is my car trying to leave me road side?

When I get down to an 1/8 of a tank, it reads 80 miles to empty and 55 MTE at a hair above empty with no gas light yet. Part of me believes it bc we have a 19+ gallon tank and it takes about 16 to fill up normally.

Does yours do this?

I'll not let any of my cars, 993 or not, get close to empty. Don't want to risk whipping up the deposits on the fuel tank.

+1 mdude. I rarely allow my car to get below a quarter tank. I cannot say for a fact that it will collect any possible debris from the bottom of the tank or not but just call me superstitious. RC

Hmmm. I think that's a old wives tale relating to metal tanks and rust. Every fuel pickup I've seen sits on the bottom of the tank where deposits would sit. Not to mention a filter in the tank to catch them and a fuel filter following.

Driving aggressively would whip up deposit 😎😎

11 years of ownership and never an issue from driving the tank low. I guess if you didn't have the OBC showing DTE, I wouldn't drive below a 1/4.

This!^^^

Not to mention the stir up of sediment every time you fill up the tank!
