I did my own split-grill a few years ago - but I bought a second-hand pair of split-spoiler grills and centre-bar, and then a battered spoiler oval surround. I prepped the oval and centre, but had a pro-shop paint it Polar Silver.
Therefore there was no separating needed. To assemble it, I used factory fixings, and silicone as well, just in case as I do get up to 155mph - on a circuit of course.
Unless you need the money by selling the spoiler, why not try separating the grill from the oval?
Do you have any pics you can Upload? It would be cool to see. I love curry btw.
Sub my grill material either side = nice older look. Good solution if you still want a moveable spoiler.
Exactly. If you could make steel, black or grey, using different grill materials, I think you could sell quite a few, and of course it doesn't have to be split grill.
Any chance you have the templates for the grills and materials list? Could be a fun side project.
I have no problem finding whatever templates are left and making missing ones for you. Id prob have to mail them, shoot me your address via PM. However, you have to understand there will be wonky lines etc, this was not professional lol.
The parts (grill, edging etc) should all be described and linked in post 1 and then 13 I think. If not, let me know, I saved all the details.
Thought I should update. When the car was back together and I could see the big picture, I wasnt sure about the size/contrast/balance. I think there will be a Mk2 at some point.
It has dropped oil temps, most noticable if driving hard but lower mph. Not sure about stability - at a decent lick I thought it felt solid, but I'm not chasing high speed so I'm good.
It's been thro two thunder storms with torrential rain - one driving and the other parked up - and no adverse effects.
The engine bay has maybe more dust in there, and I'm still aware a rock <1/4" may result in a fangun, so maybe a Mk2 will address that.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers Like this image but the sun-glare was a fluke/bad operator. With no glare, you can see the engine details.
All I can say is that pic does not do it fair justice - a simply gorgeous set-up to see in-person!! The colors you chose for the intake & fan, along with the contrasting shroud, are a stunning sight through the black mesh. Very well done, my friend!

Many thanks Tom.
I think we have one of the last cars with visually interesting engines, the era of plastic covering all the greasy parts was just starting in the 90's. I love seeing all the pipes, tubes, fittings, brackets. But many versions are a little beyond my means lol:
But I did want to smarten the engine bay up a little, cheap makeover....

I wonder if it would look better or worse if the two black cutouts were smaller with more white surround? Like the old vs the new BMW kidney grills.
Yes NB.
I agree with your cutout/ratio comments, I thought the same thing the very first time I stepped back to get the full look. I think the grills need to be smaller....
I didn't stop playing with versions, never quite happy tbh, the opening was just too big. The past year or so I had the center bar removed which weirdly helped a little:
I was still thinking what Rev18 (or so) should look like when I went out on a jolly with @Nurburger this past Saturday. We were chatting about the decklid and he asked if I'd thought about reducing the opening size by re-using the 993 spoiler edging/base and building off that. I had, fairly often, but painting Glacier White to match was a concern.
At this point Nurburger said he had a full C2S split grill decklid in Glacier White.
Of course he does.
He's never owned a white 993, but... he has a warehouse (mythical warehouse, no-one has ever seen it and lived to talk) and out of that warehouse comes all sorts of stuff BaT would explode over.
Nick went to his treasure trove to search through his inventory of Glacier White parts, and the next day I went over to have a look and see what he'd found:
Hmmm, I liked it more than I thought I would, much more. I won't lie, I was enjoying messing around with the grill and the different looks it produced.
But this is such a clean look.
And it is also actually crazy clean - it could pass for brand new factory and cannot have been on the donor C2S for hardly any miles...
Speaking of C2S', we both agreed the S badge makes the hips look wider:
The Glacier is not an exact match, I'll play with some polish etc and see if anything changes.
But for now I'll put some white tape over the S (or not ) and drive.
Maybe there will be a Rev19...
Thanks Nick
Always a pleasure John. The decklid looks so much better on your truly superb 993 than sitting in my 'inventory'...! I do think that you should go through the effort to separate your original spoiler surround from the grille and continue the evolution of your Rev mesh design. Also keen on that check strap solve you have in the works....
And, BTW - the S looks perfect and you are likely faster than most S's so.....
