Clutch breather tube... get rid?
Long story short- supercharger installation necessitated removing OEM airbox and replacing with a cone filter. I kept the clutch breather tube in position after the airbox was taken out. After only a week of driving it has deposited a load of black dust all over the filter...
What's the latest on this- are people blocking the hole now, or putting a filter on the tube? What a weird design.

Pretty much impossible that darkened area is from the clutch tube, which sucks clutch disc debris out of the transmission bellhousing via vacuum provided by the engine air intake. Disconnect the intake as you have done and no more vacuum. Get rid of the whole thing, it's garbage. I tossed all that stuff 15 years ago.

Yes, likely emissions-related, however, most have concluded from anecdotal evidence its real purposes are first so burnt clutch smells are immediately sucked into the cabin with poor or aggressive clutch use and so any abrasive that is disassociated from the clutch is nicely spread inside the intake, coating the MAF sensor, onto the valves, cylinder walls and potentially to clog the catalytic converter thank you very much!

I removed the rubber tube as well as the metal conduit bolted to the engine shroud via 2 x10mm bolts. I left the plastic vent just open on the top of the transmission. It is well tucked up there and there is no danger of stuff really getting in there (a screen isn't a bad idea if the assembly is out and accessible). I still have the airbox and installed the rubber block-off plug that comes on the tiptronic cars.

Likely a true feature with a benefit on hard-driven track cars. May be of more limited value for street driven cars. It would be interesting to see exactly what the flow rate and temperatures out of the tube are. Can't be very high. Preserving the tube but having it exit somewhere other than the air box or for that matter, the engine compartment probably is a plus.
Or one can DIY rig something like I did a long time ago. looking back it was, how should I say, a wee bit of tasty Home Depoesque overkill:

Hi Dave, I seem to recall I had $10 into it in parts +/-., could upgrade the look with a little black spray paint. Now Fabspeed could make one out of polished stainless and maybe get $200 to $300 for it and up the HP claim to say 15 or 16 horsepower, yah. yah, that's the ticket!
