Post Best aftermarket aero parts?

Hello guys,

I'm thinking of putting splitters & wing to my Porsche (maybe RS or Clubsport) and I'm looking for parts. Do you guys have experience (I did the search but couldn't fine good answers) with different manufacturers (mashaw, rennspeed, betterbodies...)? How good quality these are?

I know Gert sells RS kit which if I decide to do would be the best but some of these aftermarket parts are tempting (price wise) so I was wondering how good are they?

Or if anyone has 'extra' parts laying around..?

I know Silver Bullet propably has few sets in his garage but he is not selling anything

Thanks.

FF:

I have done an RS Clubsport and, most recently, an RS project. I worked with Michael at MA Shaw on both projects. He is a very fair guy and you can negotiate a discount by ordering an entire kit at a time. His parts are first rate and perform very well. The RS Clubsport spent two years on the racetrack with no problems. I recently replaced my MA Shaw front RS splitters with OEM parts and the fit is identical. If you choose to go the OEM route, Gert is the man! By the way, it is somewhat difficult to get the side skirts here in the US at a decent price. Regardless of your choice of wings, give Gert a try on the side skirts. If you haven't worked with him before, you will be pleasantly surprised.

By the way, I am pretty sure it was Viken who referred me to MA Shaw. In fact, Viken got me started with this whole modification thing with my first suspension, an M030 from Andial.

Thanks for all of the fun, Viken.

Thanks Hank,

Sounds good, I was thinking either Mashaw or Better Bodies (they seem to have a little lower prices, how about the quality..?), and of course, Gert.

Defenately if I'll go OEM route, he is the man. Does he have other kits (than RS) too (his page is currently down but I haven't seen anything else there)?

Gert?

FF:

Other factory-offered options are the Aerokit 1. It has RS-like front pieces, although they are a little different, and it's own unique rear wing and side skirts. Robin has some pictures of one on his web site. The car belongs to Dennis O'kief. If you want to stray away from what the factory offered, the possibilities are huge. I think the quality is first rate. My first RSCS body kit withstood the rigors of track use for over 2 years; however, I don't have any experience with fiberglass from any other vendor.

Several of the local race oriented shops recommended Getty Design in Riverside, Ca. I talked to him and to M A Shaw and wound up getting my Turbo-S parts from Mike Shaw because he had the front splitter as well as the tail, plus he made a good deal on the package, including both the factory grille and louvers. Quality appears to be excellent. Mike is a nice guy as well.

Thanks Hank,

I'm pretty sure I'll go w/ the RS or RS Clubsport.

I have a narrowbody car & I don't want to do anything (look wise) that didn't come out from the factory (ie. turbo wing on a narrowbody or similar).

Mike at MA Shaw is a good guy.

If you're looking for competitive prices call BW Motorsports in NY. Brad the owner there is a good guy as well.

I bought my Gemballa sideskirts from him for only 500 bucks.

I'd only reccommend MA SHaw and BW Motorsports.

I'd recommend MA Shaw and Getty Design. I've seen the products from both vendors (my splitter came from MA Shaw). Michael Shaw is a cool guy to deal business with. Getty Design is very local to me so I'm supposed to get their catalog in the mail soon.

Peace!

While firms such as Shaw make reasonable parts, their quality is but average -- particularly if you want to paint them and achieve a high quality finish. If you want the best available in the U. S. backed up by years of professional race experience:

Crawford & Crawford Composites, Inc.
3501 Denver Drive
Denver, North Carolina 28037

Tel: (704) 483-4175

Although Max Crawford's parts are usually more expensive than Shaw or Getty, they are far superior in fit and finish (reference John Paterek, PCA paint and restoration expert) and, as they are fully professional, generally lighter.

FF,
IMHO, if I were you, I would strictly go for official Porsche parts and get the kit from Gert. This has the best fit and quality....
