993: Warning Beep/Chime
Noticed today that the warning "beep" (or chime) which typically sounds when:
1. key in ignition and turned/door open, or
2. key in and turned, door closed, first few seconds before seat belt is fastened,
was still beeping when my engine was off and key removed. Did it only once; never happened before, and hasn't (yet) happened again, so may be a fluke.
Was just curious if there is something else that triggers this beep/chime, and if there is a sensor or other item that might be suspect should this reoccur.
Thanks.
BTW, nice new board John.

Chris, check two things:
1. Lights are still on
2. Turn signal is still on
Besides these two variances, can't think what else would cause it. Open trunk or engine lid will not give you any warnings (only will drain your battery....)

This also happened to me one time a couple of weeks ago. Removed the key from the ignition, opened the door heard the chimes. Checked the lights, indicator, etc. none of which were on. Put the key back in the ignition and restarted the car, turned it off again and everything was fine.
My car is a 97 too. Wierd, eh?

I've been mystified by that a couple of times, too, only to find that I'd left the turn signal indicator turned on (left or right). Is actually nice to be able to turn on the street-side indicator when parallel parking. One of those things American cars don't have.
