Do it soon, because I have had vibrations turn a dime size chip into a 10 inch crach within a few miles. I recommend your local windshield repair shop. I've also done my own with a kit you can buy at a parts store. Worked ok, too.
Check with your insurance co. Some, if not most, will repair chips free of charge. My co. (AAA) was going to repair a chip on mine, however, it spread quickly, so they replaced the windshield (I paid $500).
My Allstate agent in Scottsdale recommended windhield insurance for the reason you stated. It was very inexpensive and they replaced one windshield for me already at no charge. The shop they hired did it my house and the workmanship was perfect.

P.S. I am in the market for a 96 or later 993 coupe with LSD.
Had mine replaced by a local Safelite shop; replaced with OE glass. Technician did an excellent job.
Check with Porsche Club region in your locale, see who they recommend (and if you're not a member - for shame!)
You seem to have same problem we do in Pittsburgh are. Had windshields on 993 and daily-driver A4 replaced within a week of each other. Now both have a tiny crack - within a year of replacement!
