Typically, a generic OBDII scanner ($20) is ONLY useful for a final check of all the monitors once two trips have been completed.
If your '97 993 is a late '97, or you have '98 993 DME ECM, then set monitors should be indicated as they are completed,
versus the early 993 ECMs.
