Default OEM strut brace differences? I see 2 types

I see Porsche has 2 part numbers for the 964/993 strut brace

1) 964 343 042 00 ~500usd (found on 993RS catalogue)
2) 964 343 529 70 ~800usd (found on 964RS catalogue)

does anyone know the difference between the 2 and why they are priced so very differently?

many thanks

Wish I could help you with the differences but I don't have any info on the second. The first was standard on the 964 3.8RS/RSR made by Heigo and optional on the turbo. I have one on each of my cars and it works fine. They used to be around $250 now I see them for $410

The second one is listed as a similar part I see it for $516 at most Porsche dealerships

yes very odd...

First one is listed as a 993RS part according to the catalogue

Second one is in the 964 catalogue but doesn't specify on which model...

Price is quite different too I got my prices from ecstuning so maybe not the best guide.

I don't know for sure but suspect that the difference is in the mounts all 964 and most 993 that were equipped w/ these oe used steel mounts between the bar and fender, very late 993RS & Cups had aluminum mounts
964 & early 993

late 993

If your not hung up on OEM. The RUF/Perfect Power strut brace is very nice and fits under the carpet.

this is really interesting. Do both strut bars fit all 993 and 964?

which one is the preferred material, steel or aluminum?

thanks

Thank you for sharing that, Bill. I don't think I have seen a strut bar with aluminum bases before. Just checked my files, I have documentation on 60+ 993 RS + GT2 cars and every single one of them has the black bases, except for a handful that don't even have a strut bar and one that has the bases painted in body color... ×

I think it’s because of them are specced for the 964 and one of them for the 993

it makes sense all your 993 variants look the same

The only cars I have seen the silver bases on are the 964's primarily the 3.8RS/RSR. I have the book Jurgen Barth was involved with on the 964 RS/RSR and the pictures showing the interior of the frunk verify that. I have to verify with a magnet but I am pretty sure the black bases are aluminum but painted. I had to grind a smidge off the one on my track car and it did not spark and felt like aluminum. It was painted black with the heigo stickers. I will check to verify.

964.343.529.70 is the strut brace with the shorter mounts and will only work with the standard 72L fuel tank.

964.343.042.00 is the "Cup" strut brace with the higher mounts and can be installed with both the standard and the bigger 92L fuel tank.

Good to know so it is the height of the end vs the material?

Thx for chiming in.
