Porsche 993 PPI in the Los Angeles area
The PPI info I have seen on the forum is a little old and wanted to get some updated info/advice. I am considering purchasing a 1995 NB 911 with 65k miles and received a PPI quote for $365 which includes the following (verbatim from email):
-Body and paint measurement
-Airbag crash events
-Over rev report
-Visual inspection of vehicle (inside and out)
-Price quote for repairs needed
-Porsche checklist for certification
The PPI does not include a compression/leak down test and when I inquired about the cost for this service I was told it would be and additional $695.00. I understand you have to pay to play, when it comes to the 911 world, just seemed a little high. Any feedback would be much appreciated. The shop that quoted me for the PPI is in the Pasadena area... since the car's owner lives in the same area.

Adding to what The Ben has stated; I'm not so sure you will get an airbag deployment event, even with a PIWIS 1 diagnostics tester. I believe this is too, is reserved for newer model vehicle ECU software/firmware.
FWIW, this makes the shop quote suspect, since it appears they are giving you "canned" information that is not applicable to the vehicle to be inspected. Thats just shoddy, IMHO.

Nine9six, I believe you're right regarding the "canned," email response. Will definitely try and negotiate a better price for the PPI. Thanks for the feedback!

These guys are charging $365 to paint meter the car and look it over, all of which takes 15 minutes. If the car's in West LA, I'll do it for $200 and I guarantee my inspection will be many times more knowledgeable than theirs (I'm a 12-year 993 owner and former mechanic). Unless the car needs a really intrusive inspection due to extensive mechanical problems, you can get away IMHO with a road test and unobtrusive PPI by someone who knows what he's looking at.

I just recently bought a 993 and used a guy by the name Henry, he was incredible. Also documented a video with voice over. Nice media to go with the car. I will message you.

Probably too late...
If I were buying a Porsche 993 car in LA. I'd call Callas Rennsport in Torrance. Tony Callas know the 993 as few others do. I just don't know if he does PPIs anymore. If he does, flatbed the car there and get it done.
