Ray,
Actually, I think I was even dumber than that. I suspect I did not properly turn the cap shut to the oil feed, so that it was a loose fit and the oil squirted out. Because I checked the dipstick (finally huh?) and it marked oil at the halfway mark between max and min. (BTW: the oil guage is now in synch again...). This would really never happen, but like Sylvester, I was just too excited over Tweetie...

Question

Just a thought...wouldn't burning oil through the exhausts damage the catalyst?

This oil is outside the exhaust and will only damage the catalyst or the O2 sensor if it makes it through the connections.

I thought it was that.

Can happen to any of us.

The dealer who sold me the car did that too when he showed me how to check th oil level.

So when I got home - not only were the rocker cover gaskets leaking but the cap was not shut properly.

I hope former wasnt caused by the latter.

And as for the cat, I HOPE NOT!!!

To all my friends: I was not a "stupid moron" as helpfully suggested in this thread. I had the problem again (it has been intermittently showing up), and I finally found the cause: the oil cap does not close properly and leaks. I had the unit replaced and the problem has now disappeared. and now, back to the lounge...

P.S.

"WE" didn't think you were a stupid moron, it was "Pops" Ray Calvo who suggested that.

Because one time or another most of us had over filled the oil in our 993 at least once.

Phil,

I agree with Robin. However, Ray added a smiley after he called you a "stupid moron" which means that his statement was in jest. Furthermore, you need to be careful as to what you call yourself. In one of your messages above, you stated <strong>"Actually, I think I was even dumber than that."</strong> I think you have the tendency to self-ridicule and you get upset when others elaborate on such statements.

Sorry Viken, but you don't get it. Besides which, I do not make personal statements about others...
