Post Cabriolet top died?????

Anyone have any experience with a Cab top that just stops working? Fuse is good, no signs of trouble or strange noises last time I drove it. No sounds at all from the motors. Ideas?

Did you search on previous threads. I remember there was a topic about this very recently.

Fuse is ok and no noise? sound unusual. I doubt if both motors are out. Just in case, did you have your parking brake on?

Jeff:

I have a similiar problem with my top "dying". It seems to happen only on hot days when the vehicle is in the Sun. However, it will work in the shade when it cools down (so far). I suspect a microswitch that is sensitive to the heat that is causing the problem. Haven't been able to find a "schematic" of where these are located in the auto to be able to diagose it yet.

Do you experience this all the time? Is it stuck open or closed? Try playing with the parking brake since it must be pulled up for the top to operate.

Jeff,

There is a micro switch in the hand brake that senses when the brake is on. It can vibrate out of it's receptacle and once this happens the top will not work. If this is the problem, it is a simple fix and you should epoxy it in place while you are at it. I hope this is your problem because you will be back in business in a few minutes at no cost. Just remove the hand brake console and look for a dangling switch.

Thanks Guys,
John I think you hit it. I noticed the parking brake light not coming on when the brake was engaged. Pulled the cd holder and found a loose ground.

Haven't had the time to figure out exactly where it is supposed to connect, but when I need to operate the top, I just touch one of the screws for the brake and all is well.

Thanks again.
