OT: Taycan

Motorsports started as a way to promote brands and develop followers. These leading edge electric cars are trying to capture the same emotions in a slightly different manner. Porsche is an enthusiast brand that promotes driver experiences. Not surprised to see a headline capturing Taycan following in the footsteps of Porsche performance tradition.
Common sense electric cars will follow under other brands. Right now we have the two extremes with Tesla/Porsche and Leaf/Prius. The masses will reside somewhere in the middle when manufacturers start honing the technology, costs and packaging.
Sadly I don’t think goofball is to far off on his prediction. Humans are not wired to think on the scale and future timelines needed to make change a priority. Doesn’t help our politicians think in 4 year cycles, 2 years of work and 2 years of re-election showboating. Implementing aggressive climate change would be costly financially and politically. Going the opposite direction has short term benefits, we’re seeing that now.
Lastly my take on a daily driver has changed dramatically as I age. While I still love HP the reality of what’s needed/useful on a daily basis is a fraction of what I would have considered years ago. With the lower HP my driving techniques have improved (applying track skills) to the point most big power guys can’t hang with me on challenging roads. I grin from ear to ear when a M series BMW get taken by my 185hp Mazda 6.

Power is for people who only know how to use a gas pedal and don't know the speed is in the brake pedal. Good braking technique to carry momentum can add a lot of "horsepower"...and a lot more fun to driving than having a lot of horsepower on paper.

So, obviously, nobody is bothered by the contradiction between extreme number of radar traps, dense traffic and extreme high horsepower offered by auto manufacturers? Or is the situation different in the US?

Yeah, because oil drilling and gas fracking was better for the environment?
Truth is, we broke the planet and it ain't coming back for hundreds of thousands of years and only after it gets rid of us humans. A few more decades of batteries will just add the filth and damage that drilling for oil and fracking have already done.
Enjoy the party, boys. Most of us over 50 won't be here for the coming environmental apocalypse anyway, and it's too late to turn things around, since we've done literally almost nothing since we found out about this crisis 30 years ago.
Good times are a-coming

A person doesn't need to buy a high HP (equivalent) car.
They / We / I do because it makes us feel good.
I restrain myself on the streets and do an occasional track day to use some of that HP i spent $$ on.

For me a lot of horsepower makes it awkward to have fun on streets and roads. Corners are taken at the about the same speed independent of horsepower but the speeds achieved between corners on straights is so much greater with a high horsepower -unless I awkwardly throttle back- I don't feel comfortable sharing the road with others. It's more fun for me to drive flat out until braking before a corner but not hit outrageous speeds doing so. Situation completely different in a track situation.
