Isnt the PS2 the spec tire used on the GT3?
Maybe I am mistaken

Yoko A008 - original tires, lasted 12K in rear. Very good in my opinion
BFG Comp T/A ZR: 20K in rear. Not as good as Yoko
Bridgestone RE730: 13K in rear. Better than BFG, nice feel, good wet and dry
Bridgestone RE750: on the car for 3K miles. Happy so far.

Thanks, all...I appreciate the feedback!
So my quest for a better mileage hi-performance tire is pretty much moot since no one is reporting results that show any promise. I'm a bit surprised at Ray's report of 13K rears with RE730's. These have a higher tread wear rating than the "Max performance" (TireRack's term) tires, yet I was able to coax 17K out of the rears on my last set of Yoko AVS sports, and am currently at 15K with flat wear bars. Doing burnouts, Ray? --seriously though, did you track them? Now I DO corner aggressively on my daily commute, but am pretty conservative with standing-start acceleration; perhaps that's why??
The typical mileage of 8-12K for the average rear set is, in short, appalling to me, but perhaps that's just due to my expectations. Heck, I used to flog my Alfa all the time on the street and on the track (no dedicated track tires at that time) and got over 20K with Yoko A008s..different animal I know, but geeze, 8-12K on a set of rears???
So perhaps I'll "stick" ( ) with the AVS Sports, or I'll try the Ecsta MX for a bit less dough. Or perhaps the Proxes are a possibility. Anyone else (thanks, lexpilot!) have these on their 993 chime in with opinions???
Grant, what kind of mileage do you have with the MXs, and how do you like the feel/stick on the road?
Again, thanks all!
Edward

Speaking of the Pilot Sport, what mileage has anyone experienced with these? And for that matter, what about the SO3s? Thanks!

Not as I remember; other wheels with "R" compound tires for that (track & autocross). And I don't do drag starts - that's why at 80+K miles clutch and tranny are fine.
I think the RE730 were softer/stickier than the BFG - that's why they didn't last as long. Sure felt better handling than the BFG.
I really haven't heard of anybody much bettering 20K in rear with "ZR" rated tires. If you want high mileage, buy a Civic and throw those 50K mile warranted tires on it and kiss high cornering goodbye.
BY the way; these were 255/40X17 size.

Bought a pair of Toyo Proxes TS-1 last night for $318. Including mounting and balance. The store owner mention that my front tires should be replaced as well. He said the manufacturer's date on the tires was 1994 and that the shelf life of a tire was only 5 years. He pointed out some minor checking between the tread and said I should keep a close eye out for tread separtaion. How long is a tire's life span outside of normal tread wear?
Thanks, Dave

I'm running Bridgestone S03's on my daily driver of ~70 miles per day with a mix of some freeway cruising and backroad blasts. I'm over 15000 miles on them and while there is a touch of tread left on the bulk of the rear tire, I've got some serious curling on the inner tread bar due to my lowering induced camber. Despite sitting 1.75" lower than my stock height, 15-16k out of my rears aint bad. I could certainly do another 5 or so on the fronts, but will never mix tires again.
I've previously run on the Bridgestone RE730's. They weren't bad for being cheaper but were noisy as all get out after about 10k miles for me. The S03's didn't get loud until about 15k. Also, the S03's feel much more comfortable in the rain and hold their plant to the pavement better in water.
btw: running 265 rear and 235 front 18"-ers.

So when will the PS2 be available in 225/40/18 and 285/30/18 ? I like the PZero Assymetricos I am running on now, but in about 4 months the planets will align with fronts and rears wearing out together, and I would like to try the PS2.

Dave, how many miles are on these tires? And which shop did you get T1-Ss at (the price seem very decent)?

Dave, do they have 10K in 10 years on a car, or were they sitting on a shelf?
If spider cracks are only inside the tread and they are minor, the tires might still be OK.

I like the RE 750s I have on mine, about $800 installed I think, and I have done some AutoX and track with them as well, so they have been a good all around tire. Had TTOD all morning when it was raining in AutoX, so clearly good in the wet (only experience I have had with them in the wet).
