Speed at Willow Springs...strange twist...

Here is how Pat Flanagan describes his car: "My car is a POC V-3 class car. Stock 3.2 ltr motor, 915 transmission with close ratio gears. On that day I took out the ballast so the car was about 2000 lbs with both Cort and I in it."
The car is an all out, dedicated V3 car, built from the ground up to Pat's specs by Mark Hergesheimer and his lads at Hergesheimer Motor Sports. Summary: The car is extremely well prepared and awesome and very competitive in its class. Cort drove Pat's car around Willow Springs and racked up a 1:29, very speedy.
In contrast, a few months earlier, Cort drove an essentially stock 996 (It did have M030 suspension) around the same track, with street tires and did a 1:30. The 996 is a 3100 Lb car, with only 400cc more displacement, putting out 298 HP. The stock 3.2 Carrera motor with headers, is probably rated at about 230, about a 70 HP delta. I am confused at the small speed ET delta between the cars going around the track.
Also, this is no fluke, V3 cars routinely do 1:29s and 1:30s with a capable driver. You need to turn these times to be competitive in this class. Yet in another case, a capable 996 driver, not a pro, was able to pull a 1:30 (Don Dicker) at Willow Springs in a MI car with the 996 aero package. MI could have sticky tires and M030 US and sway bars. Also note that the amount of negative camber you can dial into a stock suspension 996 is somewhat limited. How did he do dat? And Don does this on a consistent basis.
Perhaps the 996 suspension and aerodynamics are that spectacular. It makes me wonder why the ET curve gets so flat at around 1:30 seconds. It must be those pesky laws of Physics again. It takes such huge horsepower to move that air out of the way, that when you get to the 1:30 and 1:29 area, dropping to 1:28 and 1:27, would take significantly more HP...definitely not a linear coorelation...I wold want to use the word logrithimic, but I hesitate, not knowing the exact physics at play here. I could look it up in my Carroll Smith book...but I have to make a living and get off this Forum, for now.

do you by chance know of some average, good and pro level times in a 993 (being the 993 forum)? To get a comparison of the 996 versus 993 which were in the same class for POC until this next year coming. I have seen some times posted before and I know it's not the racing forum but, it would be nice to have one topic with a comparison of the loved versus the loathed (I don't mind the 996 but I know others detest it
).
