Group buy - Jenniskens UDT999 Scantool

I borrowed a UDT999 from a local Rennlister and have the opportunity to compare it with my Durametric and the Android based OBDLink LX bluetooth dongle. They all basically work the same where you disarm your immobilizer, plug in the dongle, turn on the car and start measuring.
I will write up a more detailed comparison between the Durametric vs. the UDT999 later.

If you're interested in the elapsed time counter then you're probably into low mileage cars and so the durametric may be best for you. For me, I need to know my car is correctly maintained so I can drive the car as it was intended, and having properly maintained brakes is top of the list.
You need the Porsche PIWIS tool if you want everything. The Durametric / TODB / Jenneskins offer parts of the puzzle for a much more reasonable price. Bottom line is, you need to be able to communicate with these cars so you got to have at least one. I think we've done a good job showcasing all the options.

A 993 with ONLY the factory shakedown test miles can vary between 12 and 20 miles. How many engine hours is that? If a 993 has 1K, 5K, 10k, 20k, 40k, 60k, or 80k miles, how do I correlate engine hours with mileage?

Average speed seems to be 30-35mph: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...ine-hours.html

The last few days had a chance to compare both the durametric and udt. Here are some highlights if you are trying decide between them as both have their strengths
Durametric-
-Reset the airbag fault. I swap my wheels often and of you turn on your car without an airbag or resistor it will trigger a fault.
Udt can connect to the airbag controller, but on my car is unable to reset the fault.
-Time based graphs- the durametric has a nice UI to poll the ECU to get the values like voltage, o2, rpm, throttle angle, maf, injectors, etc... in real-time and plot them over time as line charts. My Android app does too, but the durametric is better. The UDT gets the raw values but hard to see changes to it as you drive around, rev the engine, etc. Great diagnostic tool as I have been sorting some engine gremlins.
-Individual ready status values- as you know the getting our cars ready for smog check is a real PIA. The durametric shows each of the five ready status values. The UDT only shows whether the car is ready or not and doesn't provide the granularity. My Android app also has the ability to log the individual values too.
UDT-
-ABS drive link- you can bleed/flush the abs. Durametric is missing this.
-HVAC drive links- you can control the various HVAC components (actuate the hot/cold, left/right, fresh/recirculation etc valves if you need to sort the HVAC system. Durametric is missing this as well.
I will share more as I get to know both apps as I am using both to sort different issues on another 993 that I recently bought.

You may want to check a lot more 993s than that before using the engine hours value as anything more than a curiosity. There is no correspondence between RPM, Load and MPH. Which is one of the reasons why so many people have problems setting ODB2 drive cycles when they use the much passed around instructions that say, "drive 20-30mph for 30 seconds, etc". while the ECU only records load and RPM.
I for one find it valuable metric, especially given how fragile odometers on 993s are, how seemingly easy it is for non-rennlist-kind-of owner to miss the fact that odometer stopped working.
But have you seen street-driven 993 with engine hours not fitting into 30-35 average mph?

C'mon guys! Do the right thing. Keep this resource alive & growing.
Same here, I found a statement that says to the effect "993 Motronic Actual Values supported are:" and elapsed hours was not in the list. Paul is on vacation now until August 10th so although I asked, we won't get a response til then.
