Default Fuel filter

Should it be changed at 51 k miles? 15 k miles driven in 5-years I've had the car. No issues, not sure if/when previously swapped?

Definitely if you have no records of a previous replacement. I’d do it at five years and 15k anyway. Cheap insurance.

use a sharpie to write the install date on the side of the filter so in the future you or someone else will know when it was last changed.

Yep, I did that along with the date on the end. So you can read it installed. I believe mine was never previously changed in 130k miles.

Questions to those who've done it themselves:
Did you de-pressurize the fuel line before removing the filter?
Did you remove the entire airbox housing, not just the cover?

De-pressurize if you're in a hurry or, much safer, just wait overnight for the engine to cool and the fuel system to lose pressure. Best to remove the cover and the air box in order to get the wrenches in there and get some leverage. Be sure to have a small container ready to catch fuel and the old filter, some rags or paper towels underneath to catch what you may miss and, of course, a good fire extinguisher.

Super easy job. A couple of wrenches and a few rags. 20 minutes, tops.
