Martin,
I would have a hard time believing that even a top level pro would be 5 seconds a lap faster than a top level club racer. Maybe 2 or 3 seconds tops. A friend of mine is a top racer and won the ALMS race at Mid Ohio with Buckler last year. He has driven my car at Mid Ohio and Putnam numerous times. At Putnam last year he turned about .8 second faster than me, but he did it with me in the car (~200lbs). At Mid Ohio he was about 1.5 seconds faster than my best time there and he did it in what I thought were slicker conditions.
One thing about the two pros that I have had in my car that amazed me was that within a couple laps, they were at speed and in tune with the car. One guy (Speedvision World Challenge competitor) that drove my car knew the gears, the brakes and the balance of the car within a half a lap and by the time the tires were warm he was flying. Not to mention he was also as smooth as butter on a bald monkey, it was pure joy to watch him work. His times, with me in the car, would have placed him on pole in the club race at that track by a fair margin.

I have to agree with Greg on this. Sure, the Pros are paid for a reason...they are the best, but the top notch instuctors and club racers are still right up there. Looking over some of the other info it seems that Cort may only be 1-2 secs faster in the 996 than the 'other' fast guys at Willow.
A bit OT but where can I see what mods are allowed in each POC class? Their website isn't that easy to navigate.
DJ, you car is spec'd exactly how I'd want mine, if I had the $$$
What class do you run in? Willow lap times?
Regards,
SM

The other thing about Pros that no one has mentioned is that they can get a great lap time and continue at that pace irregardless of a changing car or track conditions. They are also the best at looking through traffic and picking out where they are going to pass a certain car. Club guys may get ONE good time but really use the car and tires up to get it. There is more to being a good racer than just turning one hot lap. You will see some two man endurance teams that have a great qualifier and a great racer. They are different skills and require a different mindset, some can do both well.
