My New Tires

I had Sumitomo on my 993 and even though they had plenty of tread, they were replaced only because they were date coded 2019. They worked well for my use.
I replaced my Sumitomo 's with Falcon Ziex all weather tires, owned by Sumitomo. They too ride well for my use.

A tire date code of 2019 means they were manufactured during the 20th week of 2019.

He meant 2009.
I have no idea why someone would own a $50K+ classic Porsche and put cheapass tires on it (on a “spare set of wheels”, not sure what that's about) and then post about it on this forum, but hey, each to his own.

To clarify, the tires replaced were Sumitomo tires from 2009.
The tires had plenty of tread. I replaced the Sumitomo with Falcon Ziex all weather tires which I written in my earlier post, work well for my use. I do not race.
Further, I have a spare set of CUP II wheels. On the spare set of CUP II wheels, I mounted a set of Achilles tires. Again, I do not race.

I think that's great! Be careful. There are several members on our site that may criticize your tire choice, and the amount you spend, even though it's your car and they aren't paying your bills.

Harry,
I'm sold, next set of tires for my ride will be Falcon Ziex tires. Switching out from the brand that can not be named, well, named here on Renlist at least.
I still have three or four more good years left on the set I have for now.
I only rotate the rears left to right & right to left once a year or two depending on observed wear on the inside edge.

Yes, we are all experts LOL! I was going to go Hankook but the BF tires rated better or as well in the reviews I read..............the cost was $545 mounted minus $ 100 Atlanta Braves price off plus $ 70 BF rebate, so $ 93.75 a tire mounted is pretty good price...........we will see how they wear versus Continental and Sumis......but the tread wear rating is about the same as the others all said......I would go Michelin if cost was not a concern and I drove the car daily and on longer trips..........I have 66K miles in 20 plus years of ownership, but drive it at least once a week and it was a daily for 4 years in the mid 2000s....

I think you should buy as many sets of whatever tires you want, but when you come to a Porsche enthusiast forum and post “Hey, I just bought the cheapest possible tires, I’m not even sure what they are called, but what do you guys think?” it’s not very surprising that many people, including me, will not celebrate your choice.
I know you're an Oldsmobile guy. It would be kinda like going to a 442 forum and posting “Hey, I have an all-original 1970 W30, but the engine was tired so I found a 403 with a 2 bbl carb from a 1982 Impala station wagon and put that in, installed some mint 13” Corvair wheels that bolted right up, and then had the car repainted by Maaco in a Honda gold that’s pretty close to the right color, what do you guys think?”

You're absolutely correct. I am an Oldsmobile 442 collector and authenticator. Far stretch to compare tires to the authenticity of a Porsche, 442 or 442 with the W30 package.
Thanks again for your factory original Porsche in dash, single CD player with AM/FM stereo and the factory manual.

I spend $45 per tire for my Michelin road bike tires. That’s 50% of one of your tires for your 170 mph capable 993. Why? I don’t want to crash at 30 mph and die when my $15 Chinese tire explodes nor do I want to crash and wipe out my friends.
Your logic of “it’s your car and your money” is valid only when you have the roads to yourself and no passengers. Otherwise you risk other’s lives in order to save a few bucks. You are wrong - hopefully you won’t end up dead wrong.
