Default Jack Stands

I mus be dull, but it seems to me that there is no obvious location to put a jack stand to replace the jack on the 993. The jacking plate is too small to allow for both the jack and the stand.

Now, I know there is a simple answer because people do it all the time.

Can someone save me the embarassment and expense of choosing the wrong spot and breaking something - where do you put the stands on your car???

TIA

I removed the engine tray... I was reluctant at first to do this but seems to be a safe/accepted practice...

Use one of those low profile jack a piece of 3/4 panel (to distribute the load and avoid damiging the engine) and raise it by the engine. right in the middle where the two cases meet.

Once you raise it to the desired height use the factory jack points to put your HD Jack Stands.

Hope this helps!

Jaime: I was considering that until I read in the manual that you should never lift the car with the engine or the transmission.

Anyone else tried this?

I know... until I saw a few folks here doing it and recommending it I was with the same mind set. I gave it a try, no problems so far. It is next to impossible to lift the car an put a jack stand. There is no space at all and there is no middle jack point like in the 944s to do so.

Robins site has a jacking procedure in the DIY section.

The manual recommends that because it assumes that you still have your engine cover on. If you are still worried about damaging the engine or transmission you can install the jacking plate that Robin refers to on his site....there was a group buy on these a few months ago.

That does indeed works fine for the rear - what about raising the front of the car and putting it on jack stands?

Use the rear jacking point to lift the front in the air first. Then when the front's are on jackstands, lift the rear from the engine and place the jackstands. As mentioned before look at Robin's website for detail instructions.

Any recommendations for Jack Stands? I need a new set - I loaned mine to my dad and given the pace that we're making on his toy I don't think I'll be getting my back for quite awhile.
I'd like to get a good set that I can use for both my 993 and 951 and will use them both at the track & at home.
Thanks for the recommendation.

If money is no object the AC with the flat pad are really sweet.

Greg,

They look awesome - I may need to find something a bit cheaper; these cars are draining my pocket quicker than I can fill it!!

Thanks for the lead.
