Sounds like a bucket list trip for sure, Pint on me as well if you pass through Central Florida, have some great driving roads here on the West side of the Orlando.
Excellent! Several years ago I took road trip making a loop of the country starting in Maryland and getting as far as Las Vegas in my 993. Fifteen days, 14 nights, and 6723 miles, a trip I will never forget. Safe travels (and a great photo by the way).
I've been looking at Yosemite - Mono Lake - Death Valley - Las Vegas - Mt Zion - Bryce Canyon - Monument but still dreaming at this pojnt
The other way would a fun entrance to California putting you central with an easy shot to LA or SF
Nice, have a fun trip. How did you get the car over, and if you don’t mind me asking, what did it cost?
I have a 95 C2 and moved to California a few years ago, mine is mostly in storage unless I’m in the U.K. and would love to get it over without spending a fortune. I’m interested to know what challenges you faced m, if any.

I got a quote last week "Roll on Roll off" Charleston -> Bremerhafen for my 993 for $850.
Enjoy! My 993 had a shorter ride on a ship and only from Hawaii to California in 2016. Then 20+ states to get to Florida. I had a ball and I'm sure you will enjoy as well. One piece of advice. Sort out your day's itinerary on your navigation (Google Maps, Waze etc) and make sure you have a local version saved. I found myself in a few locations without mobile service and tough when you take a wrong turn or two.
Let me know if you have an Instagram account and I'll follow. Always fun seeing people's road trips.
Funny- I've been talking with my brother in law in Scotland to do the opposite.
That said, you should consider driving through North Carolina and Georgia, some great mountain roads there.
Do let me know if you change a fellow Brit here in Georgia with a 964!
Sounds like an amazing trip! If you happen to be passing through Birmingham Alabama 5/17 - 5/19 you should stop by and see the Barber Historics car race at Barber Motorsports Park. I'll be racing my 993 and will get you pit passes or if you pass through on another date I would love to buy you lunch and hear about your trip.
Some kind offers, interesting suggestions and good advice. Thank you.
I have a very fixed itinerary and elected to book all the accommodation up front given the time of year and availability Some of the hotels I was looking at and came back to book a day or two later were then not available, and the last thing anyone would want to be doing after all day in the car is trying to find a place to stay.
The ‘how to’ will all be covered in the blog being put together with everything from the shipping, insurance, little tips I’ve come across, and all the costs involved. I’ll be ready to share it when I land in the US, or at least within a day of landing once I have the first post on the driving part of this trip written (seems premature to release a blog on a US road trip before any miles have been put in). This will also give me time to complete all the words on shipping, importing, insurance and so on as those things finalise and I have the full information.
Nice to see the area around the Smoky's mentioned a few times. I’m familiar with some of those roads like the Dragon, and in part driving them in the past has planted the seed for this trip. I’ll be based in Tennessee at both the start and end of this adventure, within 45 minutes of the mountains at both the beginning and end of the trip and looking forward to exploring some new routes across them.I’m spending this weekend mapping out daily routes and paper documenting them as cheat sheets to help with the navigation.
Days one and two are monsters and will be the most grueling as we put in 20 hours of driving up towards the Badlands and Mount Rushmore. It is a huge detour given the vast majority of this road trip is in the lower parts of the country. I blame Alfred Hitchcock.
Do any have concerns about leaving our inviting cars overnight in open motel/hotel parking spaces? My paranoia?
Yes. Not the 993 this time although when I had that in Southern California back in 2016, hotel parking was a tad stressful.
"Another hotel parking scenario. In the out of the way space that has less passing traffic or more busy (car most likely on both sides) and more passing traffic. For security, each has benefits. When possible I try to get a view from my room and first thing I check each morning."
