First 993 I drove was a RUF 993 owned by a member here in Houston.

That car was incredible quick. Pushed me back in the seat under 'light' acceleration!

Solid. Unique smell. Great sound as the the Varioram operates.

Nothing compares to the initial feeling you get when driving a car you just purchased.

1 st Feeling: Everything I read about how great these cars are was true!

2nd Feeling: I gotta get one, gotta find "the one" !

Feeling at Purchase but not yet in my garage:
I can't sleep, and can't stop thinking about it, nor talking about it. Drove those around me crazy!

Feeling once in my garage:
I am the most fortunate soul alive on planet earth!

Almost three years later:
I am the most fortunate soul alive on planet earth! + what's the next thing I gotta save up for....

I first tested a beaten up 1980 911… what a pos… after dreaming for so many years of what a Porsche should have felt like I was totally disappointed.

The guy at the dealer notices my disappointment and asked me to take a used 1996 C4S for a test drive… I was hooked. It was all I had dreamed about. The grip, acceleration, smell, road feel, sound, planted, wide, sexy lines; everything about it was just perfect.

A week later I purchased a brand new 1997 C2S without any spoilers. Since they told me that Porsche do not require break in period… I took that car out of the lot and into the street and went around the island… ok, so we have a small island; nevertheless I put some 300 miles that day, at various degree of speed. Used the car as my daily driver… had to return it after numerous problems with the A/C, belts snapping, and the dealer screwing up the paint in the sunroof when changing the seal… I had them take it back and they gave me a new 1997 C2S full aerokit in beautiful Vesuvius… I paid for the difference in price for the aerokit and was out driving again… same treatment… run it like it was my last day. Really enjoyed that car.

I always thought that BMW were the most balanced car… German engineering with a sweet sport feel to them. Now I can’t get enough of this car (currently with a 964) to the point that when the starter went bad (it was actually the positive cable at the terminal in the starter that was bad, but whatever!) I push started the car to take it for an hour drive just to satisfy my need for a fix… ohhh that sound and those lines… caressing the body every time I go next to it in the garage (good thing my wife does not see me doing that… but somehow I know she knows about my infidelity…)

It is sick I tell you… sick!!!

Here is the only digitized photo I have... need to scan the others:

I had previously owned a 73 911E and loved that car for the sound, smell and the way the intake changed it's pitch as I went up the tach. I wanted to re-capture that raw feeling that I couldn't shake after having this car. Had a 96 M3 and it was too quiet and civilized. Great car but it just didn't do it for me.

I flew to Houston to pick up my 993 and the minute I fired it up, I was so excited because I could tell the old air cooled engine had not lost any of it's sound (Tech Art mufflers helped). The car had been improved but it hadn't been 'softened.' My 96 993 even smelled like my 73. I drove the car 500+ miles that day and my wife couldn't kiss the smile off my face when I got home.

I'll never forget-I got home around midnight and she was waiting for me at the door. She said she heard a 'fast car' coming down our street and knew it must be me getting home. What a great day.

We are truly fortunate to own these cars.

I recently sold my '94 Corvette convt., which I really liked, despite its flaws. I was going to move up to a C5 (late model), but decided to give Porsche another look first. I've had a few 914's, including a 6, but needed a car with good AC (living in AZ), so I drove a '99 996 first, and a minute later a '98 C2S. I liken the experience to sex with and without a condom. I was so lucky to drive the cars back-to-back. I might have bought the 996. The 993 is like the cars I lusted after for so many years... only better! The sound, the smell (glad to hear others mention it), the classic 911 look, this car is exactly what I needed! I am so lucky to have this car, I'm appreciating it more every day.

Even my wife loves the smell of my 993! She says it just has that smell that all Porsches have. Yeah! It's like a bad-a$$ go cart! The ultimate.

I left the dealer filled with uncertainty, because I traded in a 944 I had for 11 years and wondered if I spent too much $. I drove about 15 freeway miles, then hit the mountains, after the first or second curve I said to myself--This aint no sippin whiskey!

When I first drove a 911, it was a C4S, and I have an M5 as a daily driver. As such, I felt the 993 needed more oomph. However, the car had PSS9s and cornered like nothing I have ever driven before. That's when I realized what a real sports car should feel like, and also knew that I can't mod my M5 to that type of cornering feel. I knew I wanted a 993 then, but was also sure that I'd want something more than a regular Carrera.

Now with my RUF, and my M5, my want is no more.

Thanks Pin.

I was amazed at how inferior the handling on my 25,000 mile 1996 993 was, compared to the 964 I had come from. I quickly learned that the original Monroe shocks were to blame: they were toast.

A set of H&R springs, Bilstein HD shocks, and M030/RS sway bars transformed the pushing, groaning beast into an incredibly sharp handling car that far exceeded the abilities of my previous 964, which made me a very happy man.
