Default HWFM On Ice!

I was the co-chair for the "Eiskhana" event that RMR/PCA puts on each year, and I proudly wore the team t-shirt. Eiskhana is an autocross on ice, in this case a frozen lake in Georgetown, Colorado.

At the driver's meeting:

The back of the shirt was especially appropriate:

My "Porsche" WRX:

Hey, it is a flat engine...

There are lots of pictures of Porsches, Audis, Subarus, etc. on ice at the following URL:

Eiskhana '04

In the AWD non-studded tires class the Cayenne Turbo did well, but an '04 F-150 driven by a local Club Racer spanked it by 13 seconds. As many here know, the car is only part of the equation, and a good driver is going to be fast in almost anything.

I placed mid-pack, which is about where a HWFM team member should be.

I have two questions:
1. How well or poorly did Dunlop M2 do on that surface (seems to be more snow than ice)?
2. Where do I get the TShirt?

Mike,

1. I don't know if anyone was using the M2. It is a frozen lake, so it's solid ice, but there were drifts of snow on it. Believe me, it wasn't anything like driving on packed snow or icy roads!

2. Some of the other HWFM folks may be able to comment on availability of the t-shirts. Are you a team member?

1. I saw a picture of an M2 on one of the cars, so I thought you might have the results with tires indicated. I do believe you, I was racing this past Sunday on glare ice in NH.
2. No I'm not. I'd like to find some info, the concept is fascinating :-)

Indeed.

It's a team of highly experienced race, de and enthusiast drivers dedicated to performances like Skip's in the above event. There is nothing average about mediocrity

The remaining t-shirts and hats are on the way down to Sebring. If I have any left after this weekend, I'll let you know. You'll need to apply for team memebership of course, which involves posting your qualifications for membership and faxing a few beers to a couple of influential teammates. I'm sure you'll turn up prior applications in a search

The shirt is very becoming on you. Was the picture taking at the only time the grid girls weren't crawling all over you? And congrats on your fine performance. I know that lake well, and have passed it many times on my way to enriching Vail Ski Corporation.

BTW, what are you holding in the first picture?

Mike,

Thanks, and I wish there were grid-girls!

I'm holding the track-map, which is edge-on in that picture:

With all those empty bottles behind you, I figured it must be the driver's meeting.

And in shot #123-2386, she is definitely checking you out. Skip

I need that shirt! Wow, an autocross on ice sure would be a lot of fun, I'd probably come in dead last considering I am a Cali native, and of course, in the spirit of the HWFM racing team. Although I did do a couple years time in North Dakota

Thanks, Mike!
I think it's right up my alley as "mediocrity" is my second middle name ("mid-pack" is the first). I can not only fax beer, I can include one of my favorite pints from my travels in Czech Republic. Consider that my official contribution and application.
