Suspension help row 030
Hi all,
Have a bit of an unusual suspension question on my new 993. And I’m a bit of a suspension numptie!
It’s a uk car and has the factory M030 kit.
However the the previous owner fitted Bilstein B6 sports at the front which I think were the wrong shocks. Don’t believe he changed the springs.
Having measured the suspension height I have the correct height at the back for the mo30 but then the front now seems to be standards row height. ( 154mm)
would this be because he should have had Bilstein b8’s which I believe are shorter?
The car car drives well but looks wrong.
What is is the best way to remedy ? Ideally would like rs height.
Any help very welcome

I believe there are two versions of the B6 shock - a "normal" version and one with 30 mm of extra thread (XT) on the body which allows the right height to be lowered further.
My guess is your car has the version without the extra threading.
(Bilstein B6XT shocks with M030 springs are what I have on my C2, and the ride height is set to RS + 10 mm):

I bet if you sent your struts into the manufacturer they can re-barrel them if the outer body needs extra threading for a lot less than purchasing new ones. Or you could probably bring them to any local machine shop where they could add cut threads to what you have. In either case, it could save you a good bit of cash.
Also check the sequence of spring purchase and lock rings attachment. You may be able to resequence them and lower the purchase to some extent.
Alternatively you could go with OE or H&R aftermarket shortened springs.

There is so much that goes into setting up the suspension parts on these cars it is hard to diagnose the issue without visually inspecting it. I would recommending taking it in to a suspension shop that is familiar with 993s and have them take a look at it. Good luck and keep us posted.

Your front measures at 144mm? I believe ROW m030 is supposed to be 144 +/- 10mm

Yes, I believe the standard length B6 won’t get you ROW sport height. For Bilstein, you’d need the B6XT or the B8 shocks, for example.
To run RS height, I think it’s more involved - ie adjustable coil overs, RS sways, uprights, tie rods.

I'm about to have the Elephant Racing ROW M030 kit installed on my 993, and it uses Bilstein B6 HD dampers that Elephant actually does change to have the appropriate droop height for the shorter springs.
