Post If the Chicago Bears are willing to sell out, why not HWFM Racing?

I don't know if this made it to your corner of the world, but the Monsters of the Midway have announced that they will now be known as

"The Chicago Bears presented by Bank One".

My first reaction was complete revulsion. My second one was my profession was responsible.

Then I got to thinking.

Why not have our Team sell out?

We're a natural for certain corporate tie-ins.
We can look for a product that is SLOW-RELEASE, or LASTS A LONG TIME.

And we'd be a lot less expensive than an NFL franchise. (although there may be even more laughter involved with the Bears than HWFMR)

I imagine right about now, Ray Calvo is thinking "this is so way off topic...", but it's really not Ray.

The proceeds from selling out will be used for:

1) a 993 Cup Car (on topic!) for the Team to use in driver evaluation. If you can be slow in one of those, you are truly gifted, and we want you.

2) The downpayment on a Gulfstream G5, so we can get more teammates to events when it's too far to drive a 993.

3) A really good team party.

So HWFMR is now officially open to discussions for corporate naming rights.

Rick has a great idea. Have that music playing in the background while Mike executes a truly lurid spin in slow motion... and accidently hits the apex.

Is my new avatar cool or what?

Rick

Brilliant. The perfect tie-in. Why, for the right amount of money, errr package, we can paint our cars Heinz Red.

Steve

I appreciate the featured role, but we have a whole team capable of luridness. In fact some was displayed on Sunday as I recall.

I do like your new avatar. How close to oldfartdom were you when those cars actually raced?

Yes, that's me driving my car #53. It was actually quite recent. April, I think. Maybe May. No, it was April. Yes. April. April 1972. That's Jim Busby behind me. He didn't stay there for long; that's a factory 935. But he finished 37th. My team finished 9th! Can Rick964 join HWFM Racing? I like his style. Maybe he has more sense though. Can you bribe him with a decal?

Forget the team, I was thinking of hiring Rick for the office. I like the way he thinks too.

But he's welcome to join the team if he's like. I even have a sticker or two for him.

Let's see, if that was shot in 1972, you wee what? 12?

And is that Watkins Glen? Riverside? (I'm trying to think what track had grandstands like that in 1972)

Something cheap and sleazy and tabloid worthy...

So a strong sexual tie-down, err tie-in, is a must. If HWFM Racing is gong to last longer (or last at all...), I'd think you'd want the ladies to know about it.

Viagra?

Well thanks guys, I would be honored to join the team and would wear the "turtle" proudly. Perhaps I could have the HWFM Racing Sponsorship Director position?

Cheap and Sleazy sounds perfect for the team, except of course for our female members.

Team Sponsorship Director it is.

BTW, can you sing "Anticipation" like Carly Simon?

If you'd like a sticker or two, e-mail me your address Rick.

Oh Oh. I see a fight brewing between our old "Sponsorship Director" and our new one. Perhaps Rick could be the "Condiment Director" instead. Unless, of course, Phil needs an assistant to handle the certain flood of sponsorship deals that are pouring in.

Mike, I don't envy the tough job you do, deciding the big issues. Carry on.

Not sure how to interpret that "ahem".
