you may want to make sure the pulley's mounting surfaces are clean and free of any junk. Was this pulley a new one? Maybe its bent?

How hard was your car rear-ended?

If you have a dial indicator and a magnetic base, you could measure the runout on the crank snout. That would definately tell you if its bent. A dial indictator and base are not that expensive really...

spts,

It's your pulley. Don't bother with the dial indicator check, just replace the pulley. You'd have to stand on a ladder and beat the exposed end of the crankshaft with a sledge hammer to bend it enough to make it visible with runout from the pulley.

Not to mention the fact that oil would be pouring out of the (destroyed) pulley seal...

In my oppinion the pulley is creating the problem. The crankshaft is a lot stronger than the engine block. In case of an impact the block goes first.

Chris,

I knew that you figured he replaced the pulley. Sorry about the tone of my response. Long day. Just didn't want spts to go thru a lot of extra goofing around.

By the way, did your door arrester DIY a few weeks ago on my '97 driver's door. Worked like a charm. Thanks again.

Mike,

No worries, I never took it as harsh. Glad to hear the door arrester mod helped! I do get enjoyment from helping people...

Chris,

The driver's door works so smooth now. No noise at all. Actually, I meant to tell you that I got the arrester in and out through the speaker hole and did not have to take off the full door panel.

I carefully (modeling razorknife) cut through the foam "cup" behind the speaker, folded it over and did the procedure on the arrester through the hole. When done I used fabric tape (duct tape) to doll up the cuts. Looks good as new - not that anyone is going to be inspecting behind my speakers anytime soon.

mike, thanks for respond...i'm new to site a very good one.i'm new to the 993 model owned 77 with 3.2 motor.
Aside from wobbing pulley got a churpping noise coming from back of engine could this be timing chain tracks since car was hit in rear...got good compression from all cylinders...
