Need help seperating drive shafts
Hey guys,
I wanted to replace the boots on my 993 drive shafts and ran into a problem. I can’t separate the inner bearing from the shaft.
From what I read here all it takes is removal of the circlip and a few light taps with a hammer. I tried for some time now to no avail. Even with a three jaw puller I couldn’t separate them.
I’m afraid of damaging the bearing if I try using even more force since everything is transferred through the ball bearing.
Any ideas on how to proceed?
thanks!

I just did these, it's a messy PITA. If you're not repacking you might as well since the mess will be identical. (EDIT: Still beats split boots. Yuck.)
Light and then heavy taps did nothing, but the puller worked very well. You'll need to block the hole in the shaft end with a bolt or similar, then go to town. The joint is pretty beefy and I don't think the constant pressure of the puller will do damage.
Take note of how they're oriented, they can be reinstalled backwards and the circlip won't seat.

Split boots are crap! Buy the correct part and do the job once.
I put an aluminum block on the end of the shaft and gave it a good rap with a 1.5 lb lead hammer and the splined axle shaft fell out.

Just did this yesterday, after the circlip is off just gave it a few taps with a hammer and it came off. Maybe rotate the joint a few time and then try. Also, dont try to seperate the outer joint, its pressed in. Just clean it out with brake cleaner and repack it with grease

Did mine recently. 3 jaw puller and a swift rap with a copper mallet when the puller is under tension. Don't forget some decent nitryl gloves it's a disgusting job. As said get the genuine boots or you'll be doing it again sooner than you think.
