In the USA there are several manufacturers of excellent replacement parts often better than the original, which is not easy.
Unfortunately some parts partiticularly off ebay look like bargains but are a recipe for trouble.
I have had experience of 2 recently. A cv boot which failed after 6 months and worst of all a handbrake cable which did not fit without modification and jammed in use. A simple washer made out of plastic jammed in the outer sheath.

Yes, one needs to evaluate any aftermarket part before using it on their car. Even dealer supplied Porsche branded aftermarket parts, referred to as service new in the industry, are not, in most cases, subject to the level of manufacturing process control a new part as originally installed on the car.
