Wanted - good value source for wheel refinishing
Hi 993 People:
I really did search for this info but can't seem to find a relevant piece of advice. I'm looking to have some curb rash fixed and would like to send my wheels out while it's still winter in my area. This not a show-car or restoration job - just want stock looking finish when all is said and done, and would appreciate any referrals to shops that have done good work at fair prices for others. Closer to the Midwest is slightly preferable, but not critical.
Thanks in advance,
Ron

You might consider the mobile wheel refinishers. I've never used one, but I've heard decent things. For like $100-$150 they'll come to you, clean up the curb rash, repaint and clear coat. For sure you'd have to find somebody reputable thru a referral, yelp, etc. And make sure they'll use an acceptable matching paint. Would save you like $40-$60 in round-trip shipping cost too.

It is actually pretty easy to repair the rash and then have a powder coater to repaint. Get some 220 sand paper and sand out the rash. Once the rash is out then you can start to buff the sanding marks out with 320, 400, 800, etc... until you don't see any sanding marks. Once you are done then send the wheel off to your local powder coater and they can strip it down and coat it you color of choice. Dremel works good too.

I have both had wheels refinished and have done it myself. I used these guys in Cincinnati with good results:

I used this method just on the outside of the rim and it works great!

Thanks to all for the great help and advice. I'm going to make some calls and also consider the DIY route. Will contribute the results to the general knowledge pool here.
Cheers!
