I later asked could I turn the Cab into a RS, answer was no. No such thing as a RS Cab. No problem, one more race with a rookie X on my back is not a bad thing, I wont be fast for a while!!
Looking forward to welcoming you to our little midwest tracks this fall!!

Thanks Eric, we look forward to coming up there! You guys should make the treck to TWS next March so we can show you Texas style hospitality

Cant turn the cab into RS? that's a bunch of balony in my opinion...There is nothing in the rule book regarding updating or backdating separating cabrios and coupes... I'm afraid you were a victim of "newbie going tooo fast for his first race, therefore he has done something illegal" attidute. I think you should contest the whole thing for the future as well. Being stuck with all that extra weight will not help in C not matter what you do with the engine. It gets really old fast when you cannot fight with your piers...

Don't worry Mike, we can be twinkies in September - I have a smurf suit, too.

Sounds like a great time and congrats to everyone.

The Gingerman Club Race is on which days? I may try to drive out and hang out for the day.

Skip,
Gingerman has a DE on Friday and club race on Saturday and Sunday, I think. The 4th of July weekend anyway. South Haven should be a good time for the 4th anyway so come on out and do some driving. I'll have you as my instructor to find Eric's secret lines.

Here is one more "highlight" of the weekend to share...

Kirstin Knott ofFedEex racing patiently waited at the hotel for the UPS delivery man to show up with my caliper. The delivery ticket shows a 9:00 a.m. delivery, however, Kirstin and the caliper did not show up until 11:00. Ya just never know....

just kidding Kirstin (well not really but I had to say that)...Thanks a ton!

Greg,
Thanks for the info. Right front in the air, left front skipping across the track, back end comming loose is probably not the fastest way through 9/10. Like I said, I've got some work to do getting the new suspension worked out.

I'll see you guys at Road America. You should also think about making the trip to Brainard.

http://nordstern.org/ClubRace/index.html

You'll have those RSs at 155+ on the front straight and go through turn one at 140+. Turn 2 at 130+ then brake from 140 to 40 or so (I never look down) for turn three. This is your kind of fun.

Kirstin is our paddock angel.

I don't know how many sentances I heard that began with "Kirsten, could you..."

Plus she keeps getting faster in that little Boxster S.

Who wants to go club racing??
Well the first team meeting/Club Race for HWFM Racing (MidWest) has been logged into the history books.
The Racers:
Bill –Chicago- multiple class winner
Greg Fishman-multiple class winner
Eric in Chicago-Rookie, 1st race
Mike in Chi-Rookie, 1st (PCA) Race
Jeff Phillips-Rookie, 2nd Race
Doug Crossman-Rookie, 3rd Race

The short story, the guys that were supposed to be fast were and they won.
The long story…
Greg Fishman was seen near the Eurosport trailer, checking the “wear” on Bill's Hoosiers. What do you know, Bill has his tire deflate on him 3 laps into the sprint race. Greg takes 1st place in class (C) and overall win (Group 2)Rookie JimB in a great looking 996 takes 2nd. In a odd twist of fate, with Bill out of the race and unbeknownst to me, I move up to 3rd place!!
Finish the race and am informed that I have to visit the scales, I drive a Cab! No way I wont make weight (3064) I pull in, 34lbs light!!! I am DQ’ed, no podium and the race does not count for my rookie licsene. OK, make sure I finish the next race with 6 more gallons of fuel than I ended with and I can make weight. I can still run the “Top Gun” race. The top gun race takes the average of each driver’s times over the weekend (practice, qualifying and race) and assigns a handicap. Well being part of HWFM racing, I get the pole!!! The slowest in our run group!!! Our group is C cars and higher (993’s toGT3R Supercup and GT1/2/3 cars) Pro Driver Rick Polk is in my group driving his Grand Am GT3 car. He and has a 3 min. handicap behind me. The race starts and cars are let out on to the track behind me based on their handicap. It is a 22 lap race so if no yellow flags fly, I might have a chance… It only takes a few laps when things get ugly. GT3R ‘s whizzing by me like I am a pylon, then come the 2000 lbs 600 hp GT2/3 cars followed closely by Bill and Greg and a host of other fast guys. I am trying to count the # of times the various cars lap me. By lap 19, I am out of contention but what a blast. Having 2 of the best drivers in Club racing pass me on either side while turning into a corner doing 90+ miles an hour, inches from me and each other. They split around me doing 110 easy, brake down to 70mph and track out.It was a experience I will never forget!! (Those guys were not offered HWFM stickers or shirts). As expected Bill and Greg had quite a battle, Greg taking victory first in the sprint race with Bill taking the honors, first in class and first overall for the Top Gun race. Quite an accomplishment considering the cars in the field!
Other highlights from the sprint race. Jeff, driving his antique 74 Euro Carrera in E Class is also in group 2 with us for the sprint race, Jeff gets squeezed outside in turn 10 (not a good place to get squeezed) he is pre apex, a lift, brake or steering correction is going to send him spinning. His choices are, wall in front, swamp in back. Possessing above average skills that it takes to push his 30-year-old car around the track, Jeff opts for option 2 spinning his car into the swamp. I forgot to mention, it is pushing 85+ degrees outside and Jeff is really stuck. The drivers are getting a little warm in their nomex. The race goes full yellow and the pace car is brought out, lap after lap we snake by Jeff waiting for his car to be pulled from the muck 10 or 15 min. later (and 5lbs lighter) the race is back on!! 15 min. later as the checker flag flies I look in my rear view, Jeff is back on track and completes the race!! Jeff manages a 4 place finish in his group A top gun race after a hot battle with our newest team member Doug Crossman .
Our fearless leader Mike, could not stick around for the club race but did manage to complete the fun race and qualifying before family duties called. Given the fact Mike needs more mods for his cars, better to lose the battle and win the war!!Mike was also honored with a pole position for the Group A Top Gun Race, I am sure he would have brought home a victory if he were able to stick around. Before leaving, he did break out bumper stickers, t-shirts and the team banner; we were the hit of the paddock! Mike was even seen trying to bribe the Race Steward and Scrutiners with stickers at the driver’s dinner. Next race for the Midwest chapter of HWFM is July 4th weekend, same drivers, different track (Gingerman Raceway) Stay tuned…

BUT, things are looking up for me... i am planning on musteringup all my courage, and take you "off-roading" at gingerman next week - sound good? ha ha ha!

but seriously, my fiend, congrats on finishing your rookie race w/o incident, AND losing a few pounds in the porsche sweat factory!!!!!

Wow... what a blast! Looks like the Mid-West contingent had a great weekend.... which makes me wonder when us Wild, Wild, Westerners can get together and practice spinning through the apexes?!?!

It's probably too hot here in AZ for a few more months ... but So Cal must have something this summer? And there is always the brewery for bench racing ...

The new car wants to play too

Cheers, Mark.

Eric,

All weekend we were complaining about fuel, little did we know how expensive 6 gallons would be. Maybe the 25 gallon fuel drum isn't such a bad
idea after all.
