Funny you mention, I wondered the same thing. Old 911SC's in white look awesome, and I actually considered one white/black interior '83 SC a few years back, but I digress..

England is passionately against white 993's. I don't get it. If I found a white/black interior 993, instead of my polar silver/black int, who knows what I would've done.

I like them

I think that white tends to flatten out the shape of the car, leading to the voluptuous lines being harder to notice. It is harder to see the depth of the arches, bulges and curves overall.
That being said, I've seen one white 993 that stood out, a 97 c2s with aerokit, black leather int. --Awesome

Hi
to this question, I have no answer for. This is out of all reason for me.
White is the historic racing color from porsche.
I like my white car very much. In germany most porsches are black, blue or silver.
No question that a 993 looks very nice in this color too.

Red face

Speaking as a Brit I can confirm that we don't generally like our Porsches white but then we don't really like any cars in white. Hotter countries prefer them as they don't get so hot (and remember we have only just discovered air conditioning!).

Having said that I used to have a Grand Prix White 3.2 Sport which looked superb with all it's black trim. I've only ever seen one white 993 on the road and that didn't look too bad but I know that the ones advertised over here tend to sit around for a long time unless they are very cheap. Similarly, Guards red has fallen out of favour this side of the pond and you can get a really good deal if you buy one.

I saw a white 996 on the Porsche stand at the Essen motor show this year and it looked horrible!

Cheers,

David

The Truth is Porsche thought if they made them all in white the Dupont family would loose money when they owners didn't need to repaint their cars when the sun faded them. Besides not everyone with money deserves the Perfect car

Interesting tidbit re. White cars. As Schwabe mentioned, white is the factory racing colour. There is an older gentleman that I know, currently resides in TX.. When he was a very young man he went to Germany and spent a number of years traing and working at the factory before eventually returning back here to own and do many things Porsche related. He said that every motor that Porsche makes is dynoed. On the 993 engine they use a jig to set the cam timing instead of dialing it in by hand. this leads to quite a bit of HP difference from engine to engine 10-15 peak hp differences can occur. Anyway since the White cars are the factory racing colour, they get the stronger motors. This is a gentleman who has been an invaluable resource and I don't have any reason to doubt what he is saying. My white 993 was always very quick and still to this day the guy I sold it to Instructs at DE's with me and he always seems to get a bit of an edge down the straights and out of the corners on other 993's on track...FWIW hope it is fun and helpful.

Agree, CJ. In fact, I am hoping Herge will have a look at it this week.

By the way, if you mention where you saw it, you better be wearing your cup...

When I was looking for my car here in the Northeast, all I could find was white. Maybe it's a regional thing.
