Default Export Us C4s To Uk?

I may be up for a return trip back across the pond to the UK from US.

Was wondering from UK Rennlisters, is it a great idea to bring my 1997 C4S with me?

I am OK personally with the LHD issue, as this would correct itself on those trips on the Continent.

Anyone had any issues with import duty/tax, registration, etc.?

Was also wondering about the market? Have noticed in UK magazines - GT & 911 & Porsche World - that LHD values are significantly lower. Could make sense to sell in the US and start again with a RHD in UK?

Thoughts appreciated.

It does make sense to take a LHD car from the EU to the UK, but probably not from the US. Have you looked into all the paperwork, taxes, modifications, etc necessary? I think that you might find some information if you search the archives. Then there is the cost of trans-atlantic freight to consider too. Once you add it all up I doubt it would make sense.

If it were me, I would sell your car in the US and pick up another LHD car in mainland Europe.

I won't comment on the sense of bringing a Porsche from US to EU, it depends on too many factors, some of which are not purely rational.

However, I just got customs clearance for my 4x4 last week and I have verbal green light for my Porsche which I went to defend in person yesterday.

The EU rules are now pretty much the same across all EU members but they look for some very specific information before granting the tax waiver. It would be too sleepraising to recount here but PM and I'll be specific.

Probably makes sense to just move on and sell, and then re-buy a RHD example in UK. However, pricing looks much steeper than in the US.

Having spent a few $, and time to sort out all the issues and make appropriate mods, I feel compelled to see if there is any sense in going with the process, and keeping the car.

Be interested to see if anyone else has been this route?
