Seems that I've heard people talk about a product called "Goof-Off". It's available at Home Depot. HOWEVER...I've used it on various things NOT including my car, and it seems to be VERY harsh...like Acetone. Anybody use Goof-Off to remove anything from the paint or wheels of your car?

I've heard people use Vodka. Seriously, they put it in a spray bottle, mist on to the adhesive gunk and let it cook for about 5 minutes before wiping. I haven't tried it yet.
I figure if it doesn't work, I'll just bag it, add Orange Juice and buy the stuff from 3M.
You have to watch us folks from South Carolina...we think Vodka can cure the common cold.

Rob,
You may also want to try Oil Flo Safety Solvent, which, in my experience, works better than the 3M Adhesive Remover for the specific task of removing wheel weight glue without harming the wheel finish.
Good Luck,
Tim

Yes, "Goof Off" is fine on paint; I've used it after track weekends to get those tire-rubber scuff marks off the body. Use just a tiny bit on a clean rag, and off it goes in one swipe. Also found in any hardware and a bit milder, though, is "Citrustrip Wipe Away," which I've just discovered works just as well as Goof Off, and also smells a whole lot better (won't give you a headache like Goof Off, Vodka, or Tequila, though I've heard the latter two are arguably worth it).

That Oil Flo stuff that Tim recommended is great stuff although I would use the 3M General Purpose Adhesive remover for the wheel weights or on any painted surface that you definately do not want to mess up.
I used that Oil Flo product to remove the black stuff on the insides of the wheel wells. Sprayed it on let it sit a bit and then sprayed it off with another sprayer filled with water. Did this a few times with excellent results.

I use something called "Solvoplast", it's used by hospitals to remove bandage residue from skin. Must be pretty safe... most drugstores carry it behind the counter I believe.
Thanks,

Goof-off had no impact on my paint when I installed new sill plates. That glue was particularly persistent so I needed to work it for a bit - I must admit it never entered my mind to use scouring pads!!! The closest I got was a plastic scraper and it worked well. Scouring pads - geez!!
