Default Door Strap Repair in DFW area

I have just the beginnings of a crack in the weld on my drivers side door strap. Anyone in the DFW get this repaired locally?

Thanks,
Jason

My driver's side door strap was "shot" when I bought my car about a year ago. After talking to a few people at PCA Maverick events the suggestion was contact Stewart Paint and Body on Plano Road. I understand it is job for a body shop and not a "mechanic". I am just living with mine for the time being. Good luck.

THe original equipment strap connection on the door or the A-pillar have no visible welds to crack. If you see a crack in a weld it is a previous repair that has failed.
The best repair is for your body shop to buy a new A-pillar door jamb part and cut a center section with the strap mount in it out and weld it into position replacing the original strap mount. No need to take the fender off to do this. Had this repair in conjunction with the trimming of the friction blocks in the strap mechanism done eight or nine years ago and it still looks perfect, as in original to the car.
Any Porsche certified body shop should have done this repair before as every 911 series car previous to the 996 has had to have this repair at least on the drive door.

Andy is correct had the same done 3 years ago to my driver's side and it's a "expensive" but effective "right way" fix. Had to order a new Porsche OEM A Pillar.. cut out the center of it along with the old and have it welded in place. Will be 10x stronger than before. Make sure whomever you have perform the work knows what they are doing!!!!
