Boris,
I had been searching on eBay for about five months and finally found a late model Hot Lap (with transmitter, hand trigger and ashtray mount) for a good price. They are out there but are hard to find.

Boris,
I'll try to get some pics soon. This is what the guy I bought them from had to say about the mount: "The ashtry mount is designed for a Porsche 911. You remove the ashtray
and track. Two screws generaly hold the ashtray track to the dash sheetmetal. Reuse
the same holes and screws to put the mount in the ashtray opening. The Timer Display unit is then velcro'd to the mount. I have built and sold a number of these mounts. Everyone seems to like them."
If people are interested I can email the seller and see if he would be willing to sell them to us. My car is at my mechanic's, so I won't have access to it nor will I be able to tell how well the mount fits.

I recently saw a lap timer mount of a fellow Rennlister. It was just a 4" x 6" piece (approx.) of aluminum sheet (www.mcmaster.com) bent at a 90 degree angle with the timer velcro'd to it. It just slips right in between your center air vent and the dash. Simple, cheap, effective. Sorry, dunno what guage aluminum but he cut it with tin snips or heavy duty scissors.

Hey, Skip,
I've heard that the Intercomps are less prone to problems, but they seemed too expensive for me and were hard to find on eBay. My plan was to pick up a nice, used Hot Lap and see how I liked it. If I had issues, I would sell it and get an Intercomp.
Also, the Hot Laps seemed to be the industry standard at the track.
