Post Front Windscreen Seal

I believe that you can remove the outside portion of the seal - is this easy to do and probably more importantly is it easy to replace?

The reason I want to remove it is to polish out the small scratches that the seal appears to have made on the surrounding paintwork. Is this common and is it related to the windscreen squeak?

Any comments / suggestions would be appreciated.

Tim,

Yes, it is easy to do and it may be related to the "creak" as this interface between the seal and paint is what causes the "creak" although I've never seen any scratches there.

Here's how to do it....

Prise up the edge of the seal and you'll see the inner "track" around the screen that the seal "bead" fits into. Use a small flat screwdriver to carefully prise out a small amount of this bead to give yourself a start. Once its started just pull the whole thing out.

Re-fitting is relatively easy. First position the seal join at the centre and bottom of the screen (by the wipers). Mix up a solution of about 20% washing-up liquid to 80% water ideally in a spray bottle. Spray both the screen surround and the inside of the seal and press it back in a small piece at a time. In fact I used my Zymol Spritzer mixture and bottle to do this.

Re-fitting without the above solution is just about impossible! <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />
