Thanks! Had the Alpine 7618 since '92, still works and the button color actually blends well with 993 dash lights.

I switched to the 996 3 spoke and decided to go back to the re-wrapped 4 spoke, looks better to me.

nice wrapping. Those look like Chris Walrod gauge rings that I got in a group buy he had a while back.

I love the 968CS steering wheel with an off set and extended hub. Gives plenty of knee room and a chunkier grip than the RS one.

+1 for the 3-spoke 996/Boxster wheel. While it is not my favorite Porsche steering wheel, it is a 3-spoke version of the standard 4-spoke wheel so looks completely stock, is slightly smaller...but not too small, and readily available. And retains an airbag. Not a fan of early airbags, but hopefully it will do less harm than good if ever used. Perfect solution, really.

For those thinking it looks too modern...the 993 4-spoke wheel was actually carried over to the early 986/996...

I've been coveting a Renown Motorsport 130R or a Momo Comp, but find the comments abut the gauge view interesting. I like the recovering of this 4-spoke; who does this kind of work?

Thanks

Why does the four (4) spoke wheel need recovering if the wheel is not damaged?

Because the average 22 year old steering wheel has had more hands on it and seen more use than the employee of the year at a Nevada cathouse.

Assume the wheel is not worn, scratched, torn, etc. Is there any reason to recover a perfectly good steering wheel. I'm not being argumentative, I'm trying to determine the purpose of recovering a steering wheel that is in excellent shape.

I like the idea of re-wrapping to have a thicker grip. The original wheel is nice, but it's thin. The Renown and Momo wheels I'm considering are 350mm with a slight, 50mm dish.

Thank you! Do you or any other members know if the original four (4) spoke wheel can be re-wrapped to provide for a thicker grip?

After reading prior posts, it seems that there are several choices. Change the original wheel to a wheel of your preference, including thickness, stitching, color, etc., or remain original if your wheel is in excellent condition?

Exactly. Some recover a perfectly fine steering wheel to add thickness, change color, or other subjective reasons. Since it is an important visual and tactile part of the car, many like to customize it to their personal tastes
