Jeff,

Are you doing the front as well? I already have rock chips in front. I'm debating if I should repaint the car, the stone-guard the entire front. But then, I 'm not crazy about the permanent lines across the hood where the SG ends. It's a tough call.

Please keep me posted as to when you are doing yours. I'd like to come watch the proceedings.

I'm just going the rears. But I don't think the fronts will be that hard. Large flat surfaces are easy, complex tight ones are not. I'll let you know when I do mine.

Of course Jeff neglects to mention that it was I that got stuck with the gunky mess - I also created the situation. It turns out that just leaving the car in the warm sun was a good way to get the glue soft and they whole shebang peels right off. You could also drive the car spiritedly for a bit to get the rear quarters warmed up.

Jeff - are you replacing the stuff we just put on? How come?

Unfotuatnely, got a huge gash on the driver's side from some flying asphalt. It's not too noticable, since it's parallel to the lines of the car, but ripped right through the invincashield through to the metal and even dented it a bit. Nothing could have prevented that from happening.

But not to worry, since I'm going to be doing lots of track events this year, I'm going to leave it until I'm done and then fix up the car and make it all _purdy_ again..

I removed the original stone guards from my 993 as they had yellowed. I just peeled them off, but it did take a while to get the residual glue off with 3M GPA remover. Turned out the shields were clear, not white as I had thought. I bought a new set from Invinca-shield for $76 for the pair, and the kit came with everything needed for the install, including a DIY video. Haven't installed them yet; have to wait until the weather warms up....

dan -
Is the $76 listed on invica-shield's site (and what you paid) for the PAIR or each? I was thinking that $152 for a pair would be kinda crazy but $76 sounds about right...

I used invinca-shield on mine. Called the local dealer and they came to the house, did the whole front end plus mirrors, and it was only $242! I priced it through x-pel and they wanted $480. Some things better left to pros.

Eric,

All the Invincashield pricing is for a "set" of LH and RH pieces, unless there is no LH and RH (bumper for instance).

Their price list can be confusing. You have to specify if you only want one of a set and they will sell you that piece for 1/2 price.

I recently had my car in for an estimate to fill some chips and a small dent (complements of my Range Rover with large steel bumper) and the shop quoted $130.00 per side for factory (silver) stone guards with installation.
Just FYI this is recent and the shop is Kens auto body in Aurora, CO.

Replaced mine years ago; the '95 had smaller ones than the later cars. Let car body heat up outside on a "nice" summer day, then peeled them off. Cleaned the body wiht alcohol, I think. Installation was a PITA. Did one side dry, and struggled like crazy to get the guard straight and not overly stretch it. Other side I used a mixture of water/alcohol, sprayed it on the car surface and back of the guard, and slowly worked the guard down into place, squeeging the water out as I mm by mm pushed the guard against the car body. Less trouble this way, aind was how the nose-guard invisishield installer installed the nose guard.
