Like to respray my brake calipers but don't have a clue how to sort out the P logo..?
Hey folks,
My brakes on my 993 are working great but the caliper has lost some of its paint. Any ideas on where to get them painted and if someone can do the logos also?
Thanks,
H.

H,
I'll attach pix below. I just taped(scoth tape/as you can see below, you can still see the logo after I applied the first coat) the logo and use a ruller's edge to lean the razors blade to cut trim the tape straight. Would have been better if I knew where to buy new high temp logos, but mine didn't turn out bad. I used Engine Block High Temp Paint.

Mike did you do anything with the paint that was allready on the caliper?? Mine is chipping badly and I just dont think painting over them would do no good..I am quite familiar with the option of sandblasting and powdercoating but Im just to much of a DIYer to do that..I want to try it myself before I take them to the pros...

Look on Robin's p-car.com website under the DIY section. There you will find the name of the guy who sells the stencils that match perfectly. He sells them for about $24 for a set of four. Pretty cheap and good quality since I actually used them when painting mine red.

What about just touching up small chips in the paint? I have silver calipers and am wondering if I should just pick up some silver hobby enamel paint to do the touch-ups. Ok, that's maybe not ideal, but it would beat the chipped look I have now.

Hmm. Thanks for braking (he he) the bad news to me Kim. Didn't know enamel paint couldn't take any heat. And yes, I'm very hard on my brakes at DE events. I guess I'll look for some cheap high-temp paint for touch-ups like this:

powder coating is the only way to go....checkout Prospeedmotorsport.com under the caliper rebuilding link....there you'll find the name Bestcoat( i think)....he has the right color and the decals

YES. I peeled and scaled off the clear coat, then scuff sanded the black..no need to sand all the way to bare metal, just enough to get a good adhesion for the new paint. The wipe it good with thinner(to get all oil off and clean). NOTE, I only prep and painted the outer half part of the caliper. reason being is the inboard caliper paint is still intact and in good condition, plus you don't see that from the outside: (like I said, I used "HIGH TEMP ENGINE BLOCK PAINT")
Total cost for 2 spray paint cans/used only one+thiner+sand paper=$13.
Labor=all labor of love from me to my 993

Mike_A, I dont think it is the only way to go..Yes I agree the powdercoating is a good way to go and will most likely last the longest of all the possibilities but what is the fun in that. Carrera Mike found a good way to do it and I think they look good. Its all about adventure if you are willing to deal with the consequences.....

I remember reading a couple of years back on one of the RX7 boards, people were using Testors model paint to paint their entire calipers. The kind that comes in the small glass bottle with a metal screw-on cap. They claimed the paint held up just fine. Some of them even took their cars to the track. For small touch-ups, less than a buck, and a ton of colors to choose from, it might be worth a try.
