Unhappy Does anyone else have the paint/finish bubbling on their window trim?

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone else have a sort of bubbling effect on their black window trims? It's not rust as the trims are not steel but presumably some sort of corrosion? I'm wondering if it is something that would be covered by the car's anti-corrosion warranty?

Cheers,

David

David,

Do a quick archive search. I believe it is water collecting under the trim piece which leads to paint bubbling. Several threads will pop up. One was recent. I had the same problem. There is a Porsche service bulletin regarding this issue. Mine is '95 MY and the dealer fixed the problem at their expense.

Yes - coincidentally I just noticed the same thing on my C2S yesterday. There is some bubbling of the black finish on the driver's door (i.e. right hand) at the top rear corner of the window surround. Is it steel or aluminium corrosion? Eiether way it should be covered by the corrosion warranty, the "inspection stamps" in my service book are up-to-date, though the last one was done by a non-OPC.
When I get a chance, I'll take the car along to an OPC for their opinion. A battle will ensue no doubt, this is the U.K!

Dave,
It another very common problem on these cars.
It would make sense for it to be covered.

I've found that kind of thing in my both door mirror frames. Interestingly, same place on both sides (not in the corner of the frame).

I guess I'll drive to the dealer & ask what they think.

Has anyone had this covered with warranty?

Mine (@22K miles) has the beginnings of this problem - have seen it much worse on a few - my dealer (Arlington) was categoric it was not structural therefore not covered under the £995pa warranty. Please rant about this !!!!!!!###############

Cheers, Maurice

I posted (on the last thread about "rust around the windshield") that I had what looks like bubbling on the black metal trim around the rear-quarter windows....the bubbling is on the horizontal plane of the black trim. I wondered aloud if this were covered under said warranty, but got no reply. Does Maurice's experience point to a loophole in our warranty --i.e. it applies only to rust directly on the body and not to rust on any trim??? This would stink!

When I had my "corrosion" problems with the Targa roof, it was the trace of rust that had started under the seals that caused Porsche to pay for 100% of the bill (which was not cheap!). On most cars this amount of rust would be nothing, but on a Porsche its different. Porsche paid and had the car fixed, no arguements.

However, I also had some rust on the rear support struts behind the rear wheels..you know the ones that hold the rear bottom quarter panels in. They are simple tubular supports that just bolt in. Porsche says even if they are rusted through they are not covered...they are not a structural part of the body.

However I suspect its just the interpretation of my local Porsche dealer.....

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Everyone,

When I spoke with Porsche GB they told me that I would need to get an inspection done at a Porsche garage before they could comment on it. I'll see if I can nip into AFN and ask them but I suspect that they may try to weasel out of it. Would we have any joy under the Sale of Goods Act, given that items sold have to be of an appropriate quality for the purpose that they are sold for?

Hmmmm...

Cheers,

David

Blacked out aluminium tends to have this sort of problem - my recently departed and affectionately remembered 'Highline' M635CSI developed bubbles in the bumpers @ 12 years old and 100K miles... so I think 993s should do better!

I have this problem, but haven't had it checked out yet by a dealer. After I wash the car, I use my wet/dry shop vac to suck any remaining water out from under the trim after I've dried the car off. Don't know if it helps or not (the bubbles haven't gotten smaller, but hopefully they're not getting bigger), but at least I don't get water spots down the rear quarter panels when I drive off after a wash!

Hi Everyone,

I had a call this evening from AFN Chiswick about the trims and it was the same story - it's not part of the body so it does not count. I think we might have a stronger claim under Sale of Goods Act. Do we have any UK lawyers in the house? They are clearly not dealing with individuals so a group approach may be better.

Cheers,

David
