Question negative effect on using spacers?

Does anyone here using spacers on there 993s? I am thinking of using but concern about the unsprung weights or whatever ill effect it might associate with it. However if they are ok to us is the one from H&R are the best because of their low weight?

Thanks

Excessively wide spacers will have a long term effect on wheel bearing wear. Other than that, you should make sure they are hubcentric to avoid wheel imbalance.

It depends on which type of rims you are using. If you are using stock 993 offset rims, the spacers will move the contact patch out ( wider stance) and what Viken has refered to will happen. If you use a rim that has an offset that will move your wheel inward (reducing the overall stance) the spacer will get the contact patch back to stock position, having no net effect on the system. As Viken wrote, make sure to get the correct hubcentric!

I have a set of 1" (25mm) spacers I use on the back of my C4S with a set of narrow body wheels (offset 65mm)to get the wheels to proper offset of 40mm. The spacer with steel lug nuts adds 3.5 pounds unsprung wieght to each wheel.

Hasn't the factory themselves used spacers?

Yes, and they continue to do so. However, we are talking of excessively wide spacers which tend to alter the suspension geometry enough to hurt certain components.

Hello,

As Viken has brought up, really wide spacers can help the demise of wheel bearings. In the front, it effectively increases the scrub radius and can make steering inputs more difficult.
