I dunno. The page is filled with basic truisms akin to 2+3 =5.
I don't think that anyone expects any appreciable gain from the chip on the stock car. In my personal experience the chips make the car more driveable and more enjoyable if mapping is executed properly (i.e. the person knows what he's doing).
Than again, maybe there are people who expect something else.

And Porsche didn't make your car enough driveable and enjoyable?

This is 2004 and NOT the '80s where chips could possibly make some
difference. These late model cars are basically at their max with all
the technology, e.g. knock sensors, adaptive fuel injection, & variable
intakes/camshafts. Don't waste your money on foolish mods. Spend it
on a carbon fiber shift ****.

Have Fun

Stick around a while, try a search & look at claims by less reputable chip venders & I think you'll find many owners who do expect the impossible.

BTW, a 10-15HP increase in a 270-282 HP car is hardly noticeable on the street. It's less than the difference between driving with or without a passenger. I agree w/Loren. Without other mods to take advantage of a chip's potential, removing 100 lbs of weight offers a greater performance gain.

Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to install a Rennsportsystem chip in a 98 C2S? How much risk to the engine is there when installing a chip? I use only 93 octane unleaded now so there would be no fuel change. The car's mileage is less than 15K and is only used for sunny days and no track time. Is a chip worth the cost and effort? Can anyone tell me the cost of a Rennsportsystem chip?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris:

Perhaps I can address your questions.

For the OBD-II 993's, you cannot install the chip; these ECU's are not socketed and the chip is removed to reprogram it. You must send me the ECU.

As long as you use premium fuel, there is no increased risk to the engine. Timing maps are tailored to the local fuels and the rev limiter is unchanged.

Given the VERY limited number of things that truly make a performance increase on these OBD-II cars, IMHO a good chip is well worthwhile if you want better throttle response and more mid-range torque from 3000 to 6400 RPM.

You'll find a lot of information & feedback on this subject here if you do a search,......

Please contact me directly for pricing and any other questions/concerns you might have.

Steve, this was a year ago
I have an Autothority chip... which doesn't jive with my particular ECU. There were a bunch of different ECUs in '95, the chips are differently mapped. Unfortunately.

Steve,

I guess I should have asked how easy is it to remove my ecu?

Mike-

I have Steve W's chip in my '95. BIG difference. I'm no engine/hp/torque expert but here's what I think it does for my car:

1) Smooths out the top end of 1st (a lot) and 2nd (noticable) gears by giving me increased RPMs at the top. Not that I use the entire range mind you but if there's more at the top you get a smoother and less "abrupt" response near the top of 1st and 2nd.

2) Throttle response is improved, especially in 3rd and 4th gear

3) Increases torque a bit in the lower gears and butt meter says hp is greater.

One of the best mods I've done.

If Steve W. is reading this....am I learning or what!

Hi Peter:

LOL,....Indeed, you are learning quite a bit here,....

Chris:

The ECU lives under the driver's seat and can be removed easily after the seat is out. You'll need to drill out the very soft shear bolts (4 of them) that hold the ECU down, but thats it.

Call me if you need help,.....
