Post PSS9 vs H&R with droplinks

Hi, I would like to know how come H&R coilover doesn't need shorter rear droplink compared to PSS9 when rear is lowered at RS specs? Tirerack sell H&R coilover for around $1750 and bimmerparts sells PSS9 for around $1500. I want to lower the car to RS spec and don't want to pay $1000+ for RS sways and droplinks. Could I go with H&R coilover and keep my stock sways and droplinks?

I don't think so - I believe the stock sways are not configured correctly for a lowered suspension.

I agree with you on the price issue - $1000 seems outrageous given that I can purchase similar sways made from the same material with the similar bends for a passat or golf at half the price... p-car tax I guess... BS if you ask me. Maybe there's a market niche that can be exploited here - reasonably priced parts for expensive vehicles... hmmm.

I have the H&R coilovers and they bolt right up to the stock sway bars. My car is setup 1 1/2 lower in front and 1 3/8 lower in the rear over stock US ride height.

The configuration of the rear stock swaybars has nothing to do with lowering the car to RS specs. I have PSS-9's with a ride height of 24 7/8" to the fender lip (lower than RS) with stock rear swaybars. I made my own rear drop links using spherical rod ends and hi-strenght stainless allthread rod...a very simple task which works very well...leaving the stock rear bar above the lower control arm with about 3/8" clearance at static ride height and only gives you more clearance as you travel through the arch of suspension travel. The car handles like it is on rails and I don't miss having the adjustiment of the RS bars. If you are a track junkie then I would think about the RS bars but for every day driving and the occasional autoX...stock bars are fine. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Hi rcwelch, since I can't do my own droplink, what are my options? Do you think you can make a set for me and sell it to me? How come PSS-9 need a modified droplink and H&R fits right on the stock droplink?

The hats that now Bilstein offers to fit the rear shocks to the stock perches essetially add length to the assembly thus creating the problem. The H&R will fit perfectly the rear perches like the stock shocks thus there is no problem to use them with the stock bars or links.
Another solution would be to use monoball type of perches with the PSS-9 and then there should be no fitment problems and use the stock links and sways.

BTW I have on my cabrio the H&R coilovers with the M030 sway bars (non adjustable), stock links and the car handles like its on rails.

I second DJ's comments on the H&Rs. Mine fit fine with Euro turbo sways at RS ride height plus 10mm. BTW, the H&Rs can be purchased for $1599.

ele...It is kinda iffy making droplinks without having the car right there to measure. In reading the other posts it sounds like your best option would be to go with the H&R setup like DJ only use your stock bars. I think the only difference is the shock adjustment you get with the Bilstein setup. You know a good Bolt,Nut and Screw store that deals with commercial people would have the parts for the drop links and a good mechanic shop with a lift could help you if your are so inclined. Good luck
