Checked with Sunset Porsche and Vredstein, the original manufacture. Need to order through a Porsche dealer.
Replacement 'spacesaver' tires = $954 at Sunset. Comes from Germany, 3-4 weeks!!
Get off-season round trip airline ticket to Germany, purchase there likely for less(or several for easy sale here). Take terrific free factory tour, crate and ship- plenty $ for beer and pretzels.

Many times when they are inflated, people report the sidewall being full of cracks.
Vrederstein may still make the correct size. They are not cheap and hard to find.

I pulled mine out years ago to get a look at the area and clean it up. When it balked at going back in I gave it its freedom forever.

As I referenced earlier-called Vredestein(Apollo) in N.J. They don's sell, Porsche dealers can get.

No idea of age of those tires.
Add the cost of 'special' mounting.

THE COMPOUND ATTACKS ALLOY WHEELS!!
I forgot I had used the compound on a daily driver alloy wheel, and 5 years later when dealing with a slow leak in the same wheel, I discovered it had eaten through the alloy wheel in no less than 15 different places!!
It was an ugly site, and a significant safety awakening. I wish I still had a photo to post.

Just from a different perspective, there is a post on the Facebook 993 group of a 993 which hit a pole head on.
would the spare act as some kind of protection in an accident??
There isn't a lot of anything else up front between you and the world!!

I would think i'm having a blonde moment, but it may not just be me!!!
so we got a new battery, and took out the spare wheel to fit the battery, and saw the tyre was flat.
Took it to our garage as we assumed it needed a repair, and the guy there said it just needed pumping up.
Now it has been sat in our garage for a while, because this was just before we took it off the road last winter.
Went to put it back and no way will it fit.
I have googled 993 spare wheels, and they all look flat - well they look like this one did when it was taken out!!!!
So - my question is, is it supposed to be flat to fit in the spare wheel well, (ie are we meant to let it down to fit it back in) and if so, how would you be meant to inflate it if you do need it in an emergency?

I always left the spare in place when I was racing. The sheet metal pan in front is quite thin, and the spare tire/wheel seemed to be part of the energy absorption system. I had to add ballast back into the car anyway, so I might as well keep the tire and have some more weight over the front tires.
