Post Looking for the right car

<img src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" border="0" alt="[soapbox]" />

You know, looking for the right car is definitely a lot of fun, but it can be frustrating. I initially thought that I could easily find the right car out here in the Bay area, but so far I have not had any luck locally.
I have, however, found people that are obviously still deeply in love with their cars(36K mile C2S $69k).
I found ads for what looked like the perfect car, but someone botched their email address and left no other contact info. (probably wondering why no one has called yet.) <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
I found ads that are months old, car long since sold.
I have emailed sellers with questions and not gotten replies.
I have found cars advertised as "showroom" condition, if you consider a NYC parking lot a showroom.

Anyone out there know someone who actually WANTS to sell their car, please let me know! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Thanks,

Pete, I had until just recently been looking for a car for 2 months before purchasing my red C4S. From what I understand some guys take a year to find the right car. During the last two mos. I drove 4 993's and I had 3 deals fall through from flaky sellers that didn't keep their word with me. As a result I may have been a little hasty purchasing the car that I did because it was not the #1 color I wanted (even though its in excellent condition) Just be patient you will find the car you want but you may have to wade through high priced cars, misrepresented cars and dishonorable people. The bay area is a good place to look but you may find your car in so cal.

Hey Pete,

I have to echo those statements. Give yourself time to find the right car and don't get discouraged. I think we all kissed a lot of frogs to find the right Pcar but it's well worth it.
Call out of state dealerships, I think I called all of them when I was looking.
The prices are also hard to figure out, there all across the board. I am sure there are a few other options that people will add, but here are some things you might want to look for.

18" turbo technology wheels
Sport Seats
Litronics
Aluminum gauges/shifter ****/e-brake
Limited slip
Motorsound (although easy to replicate if not!)
Hi-fi
Aero Kit

good luck..

Seal Grey Street Track Car available here:

<a href="http://www.p-caronline.com/directory/~dj/" target="_blank">DJs car for sale</a>

If you are even thinking about using a 993 on the track, you should consider this car as it has all the goodies for the street and track already done. No $$$ required for you.

Hear hear! I've been looking for a Silver/blk 96-97 C4S, higher miles for around $48-50k for a couple of months now. I've just about sold my 88 911, so the search continues. All the cars with higher miles so far are not silver! I found one with 92000 miles for $38k OBO, a bit high in miles for this guy.

I can't believe how well these C4S's are holding their value. The one 1997 25k miles Arctic/black C4S I really liked that is very close to my home is $56k down from 61k 3 months ago, more than my budget will handle for now. Maybe he'll lower it in time, or maybe the spring will offer lower prices.

Hey Stever,

I think that the spring will bring slightly higher prices.

I think that prices will be higher in the spring too. I just bought my 964 Turbo and the dealer came down a lot on the price because said they don't really sell many sports cars in the winter (atleast in new england). I got it for like 7k less then asking price.

Better start looking NOW then if winter is the time to buy. The new owner, a dealer in Philly (Holt Motor Sports) just drove off with my pride and joy 88 Venetian Blue 911. I am sick about it, as I saw it go, but now I can actively look without strings attached.

Thanks for the tip about winter buying.

Hi Peter

You might want to browse Cars Dawydiak in SF. They have lots of Porsches there on consignment. You can look at all of the cars via their webcam. Kinda cool if you want take a quick look before you contact them. They do a great job at detailing the cars but I can't vouch for the mechanics. A PPI is always recommended.

There website is: <a href="http://www.carsauto.com/" target="_blank">Cars Dawydiak</a>

Good luck

EJ,

I've drooled over DJ's car several times, but I'm still pretty set on getting a silver car. Also, I need unfettered access to the rear seats as I have 2 kids that are just the right size to put back there, and I would guess the roll bar would get in the way.

Besides, isn't 60K miles kind of high for a track car?

Thanks,

I guess I'm just nervous about buying a "tired" car. "Tired" usually means "very expensive to rebuild or replace lot's of marginal items".

(I'm NOT implying this car falls in that category!)

Lot's of race cars get rebuilt every season, I guess it depends how hard they're driven.

Thanks,

Peter, these cars are good for much longer than you think -- even more than EJ's "tired" *****. How does 300K+ miles and going strong sound?

Driven hard? These cars begged to be driven that way, and can handle it. They're made for this type of treatment.
