Post Is this a lister's car?

I'm looking pretty closely at this car on ebay:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1874528483&category=10156" target="_blank">Silver C4S</a>

Is this a lister's car, or is there a lister in Palm Beach that knows this car?

Thanks,

Doesn't sound like a "Rennlister" of serious Porsche guy by the way he described it. Either you will get someone who doesn't know what he has (and get a good deal), but more than likely someone with an unrealistic idea of what it's worth.

Anyone that knows c4s's knows they as have turbo brakes as standard equipment not an option. Crests on seats and wheels is along with premium sound is not even close to "almost every option" as seller states. Not bashing the car though....it looks pretty clean. My bet is his reserve is at least at 55k

For what it's worth, from the picture of the hood sticker the options decode as:

329 Radio - ?
425 Rear wiper
437 Comfort seat left
438 Comfort seat right
445 Wheel Rim Caps with Porsche Crest
454 Automatic speed control
490 Hi-Fi sound system
650 Sunroof
692 Remote CD changer (6-disc)
935 Seat cover rear RLL
982 Supple Leather Seats/Trim
C02 Equipped with catalytic converter
X54 Oval Chrome Exhaust Pipes
X70 Metal Door Sill with Insignia

As a recent purchaser (woo-hoo) who had a relatively miserable eBay experience before finally finding the right car, just be sure that you do the things that you would do on any car (PPI, look at the car yourself) before you bid. No right price or option package, etc is worth getting stuck with a loser car. Trust me...

Thanks everyone for the advice. Buying a used car long distance is nerve-wracking to say the least, especially on Ebay. I did buy my Land Cruiser online, but it was new with warranty from a dealer.

OK, here's my "the one that got away" story.

The link in the first message in this thread may or may not work by the time you read this but it is a near-mint C4S with 25K miles, no body or paint work, no warranty work, oil changed by dealer every 3K miles, all records, the one problem with the car was the driver side floor mat was a bit crinkled. Owner agreed to no-questions 100% deposit refund if PPI or my personal inspection were less than perfect.

It met reserve at $46K and sold at $46,100, right before I was about to bid.

I guess I go cry in my beer now. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

Why'd he end the auction early?

He ended it a few hours before the official auction end. The car was advertised in several media, it appears he sold it via another channel.

I'm dying here. I'm also looking for a Polar Silver C4S but with Black interior. I'm about to work a deal on a 96 C4S in Polar Silver with Black w/ unknown options as of yet (painted crests and lojac is all I know so far), but with 53k mi for $45,900. Hope that's a good deal if the car checks out OK.

$46,100 for a 25k mi C4S? That was a halleluyah deal to be sure.

Steve
Recently Porscheless but voraciously looking for a C4S in Silver/Black

Peter

I know of two '98 CS models that are available...
both have low miles and are fairly expensive...heavy on options and Silver/Black

If you want the contact info, then email me

You really missed a deal on ebay....that car was way under priced....Sorry
