Post SF Bay Area - Speedring Night?

Hi all,

Based on Hal and Jeff's suggestion, we are wondering if we can do a Bay Area Speedring night this weekend (Fri, Sat or Sun night)?

For those who are not familiar with Speedring, it is an indoor kart racing place in Santa Clara.

Their website is www.speedring.org

A bunch of us (Matt, Jeff, Kim, John and myself) went there a few months ago and it was a lot of fun.

Please let us know what you think.

Thanx

I'm in...

Friday night,
Sat morning/afternoon, and
Sunday night

work out for me.

We'll need to be sure to box in Matt ( aka H20NOO ) so that he won't fly by us!

Do people have their own karts, or is this an amateur thing (I'm in the amateur category, which is why I'm asking )

JS,

I am in the amateur category as well

They do provide the kart/helmet/glove/racing suit and all we need to bring is ourselves and we'll have a good time

I think the max speed is ~30mph+ but that's fast enough considering that you're driving in a ~21 feet wide track.

Btw there's a shifter kart there which can go from 0-60mph in 3.6 sec and it can go up to 100mph+. But no, we're not driving this kind of kart there.

My brother has a one-generation old racing go-cart. It actually has two engines, is ridiculously hard to get started, and is so loud when started that the course he uses in London, England only allows them once a month. He's gone 90 mph in it but I believe it tops out at 120 mph. He told me the latest generation carts hit 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and top out at 140+ mph. Apparently on a very tight course they will outrun formula-1 cars!!

Arrrrrgh! Once again I'm going to miss the boat! I'm off to Florida tomorrow morning and won't return until Sunday...

By the way... There is a new indoor karting facility opening in Fremont this month. Visit www.lemanskarting.com for more info. I have no affiliation or other info.

C-ya soon,

Matt

Wow Matt... I thought you told me that you just got back from vacation a few days ago and now you're off to another vacation

Thanx for letting me know about that place in Fremont, I might go and check it out as it's near where I live.

Hope to see you soon too, Matt

They have a free coupon for an open practice session if you sign up on their web site. They said that they will be open dec 2002, but don't know if they will be open this weekend.

It turns out that I won't be able to make it on Friday night. I'm sorry about this

But I will be able to make it if we were to do it on Sat afternoon or Sunday night.

How about Sat morning at 11 am? We can do 2 or 3 open practice sessions, and then head out to lunch afterwards?

We'll need to know who else is in by thursday becuase we have to make reservations ahead of time.

That sounds like a good plan Jeff. I'm asking Kim and John too, let's see if they want to go

Hey Guys...

Due to some scheduling problems, Pin and I think we are going to have to reschedule this speedring event. Planning stuff around the holidays is always tough.

Sorry Alex and Hal.. I was looking forward to meeting you guys!

Jeff
