To 993 owners with factory sport seats....
Do all the original factory seats have hard plastic backs or what?

Yes, but I think they are made of fiber glass (correct me if I'm wrong)

Not all do. Some of the early 993's (like EJ's) with sport seats didn't. The had the sport seats from the 964, I personally think they were better seats but didn't look as good as the hard back versions.

As Greg says, 1994 cars and some early 1995 cars had the 964 sports seats.
My 1994 C2 has these earlier style seats, and they hold me much firmer than the later plastic-backs, which I believe were introduced in 1995 when the turbo came out.
I also find the wings on the top of the plastic-backs don't sit right around my shoulders (i'm pretty broad-shouldered), so get uncomfortable after a while.

Those soft back seats were the same ones I had in my '87 Turbo. They are great seats and very comfortable.

i heard from a friend that some full leather 993 sport seat cars had leather covered seat backs

Yep - the older style sport seats are very nice - I have them in my 930. The hold you in really well on the track and are very comfortable to boot.

They are the same as the 964/951 seats but with diferent stiching aren't they.
