oil leak discovered during ppi- Please advise
I just had a ppi done on a car which turned up with a oil leak coming from the engine case. From what I was told it was coming from the engine studs. I don't know my way around a flat six. I was told it was a big job to repair. Is this a definite reason to look elsewhere? I would imagine so but I just wanted to hear what others say.
Thanks

There is really no oil near the exhaust studs. They are just collecting dripping oil from above...
Best thing to assure yourself its not a leak from the case halves, or cylinder to case.
Let us know what happens...

They said to fix it you had to take the cylinders off to get to the seals/bolts. They said it was leaking a fair amount. There are some newer type of redesigned seals that replace the old ones. It's not the RMS or valve cover gaskets. Its kind of funny that I have not read of anyone having this type of problem. I'll have to search the archives. The car is a 98 with 55K.

As the car I'm looking at is going for PPI tomorrow and _is_ leaking some oil, please enlighten me - what's RMS? I searched but couldn't find an explanation, just mentions of it.
Also, how expensive is it to do the valve cover gasket on '95 C2?
Thanks! Mike.S

This one is rather common nowadays.
Its usually the O-rings under the case through-bolts.
As the fleet of 993 ages, we are seeing far more instances of this problem due to heat and in some cases, twisted O-rings at engine assembly time.
The cylinders must be removed to repair this properly.
RMS leaks are easily spotted by noting oil at the bottom of the case under the bellhousing/flywheel juncture.
