Black or body color grill on RS fixed wing?
I'm installing a factory RS fixed rear wing/spoiler on my Guards Red '96 C2. I know the factory RS cars had unfinished black grills, but I'm considering having the body shop paint mine Guards red while it's there. I liked the look of my former C2s with factory aerokit and grill that was color matched to the body. Looked more "finished" to me.
Keep it black or paint it to match? Also wondering if anyone who has done this has had issues with the paint on the plastic grill.

The 80's 911 had a paint to body color match mounting and a black rubber wing tip. so either will look great and appropriate!

EDIT
I painted mine, but went with a black satin, which is somewhere between flat black and gloss-black.
Paint prep is everything... I used a Scotch-Brite pad to scuff things up, then hosed the part down and let it dry for a day, prior to wiping the grill down with a tack cloth and nitrile gloves to avoid hand oils.

Fair enough. I was just on the fence and thought I'd get some input from other folks here.
I also wonder why Porsche didn't paint them on most of the cars. Was it a cost saving measure? Is there a practical reason such as paint failing due to heat from the engine?
They painted them on the TT's and C2/4s, but those grill designs were also a bit different.

I’m in the same boat here. Getting paint done for wing, leaning towards painting it while ‘in there’. Easier to go back to Black if needed/ wanted...
I often wondered why it was never painted as looks cleaner.

I‘ll post some photos when it’s finished. What color is your 993?

Here you go. Sorry not they're not very good photos. I had to fly out of town right after I picked up the car from the body shop, so only had time to snap a few with my iphone.
I'm glad I decided to paint the grill. I prefer it to the old black grill, as did the guys at the body shop, who do a lot of work on vintage Porsches.

I might take the Carrera badge off the rear as well. I was tempted to get reproduction Speedline wheels to complete the RS look. Considering they cost $4000+ a set and will add around 20 lbs of rotating weight to the car, I'm going to stick with the current wheels for now.
