Hey Jeff,

Obviously we're deep into an opinion topic, but do you really like those polished wheels?
I'm not saying that in a condescending manner, Rather, I just think the standard matte look is so much nicer and I'm surprised when I hear people promoting the polished look.
(Maybe it's just because I've seen soo many cars in New York, Miami and L.A. where I have lived with polished wheels, they sort of look ghetto to me.)

Matt - I don't know how much the Gemballas weigh (but I think Viken or someone else posted the weights on a prior posting in answer to the same question). They are two piece wheels with the center stamped and the rim forged (or vice-versa ), but I don't think they are as light as say Kinesis or Volk.

The good thing about them was they had an offset so that I could fit 285s on an 18x11 rim on a narrow body (fenders rolled).

Hi Ken,

Personally I like the Fikse FM10 the best.

Here's a picture of Jack's ex 993TT with those wheels:

sorry for the OT...but is Jack's old TT Speed Yellow? I've seen other SY Porsches but the color seemed a bit more "honey-like", whereas Jack's looks more like Ferrari Fly??? Or is it just the light?

I think the difference is the location. Chromed wheels are not very common here, so they really stand out. I could see how that would be different in the LA area. I really liked the chrome look and the polished wheels aren't quite chromed, but they look brighter than stock.

I'll definately post some pics when I get it all togheter. I've got the clock mechanism and hands, and have already found somebody to cut the backs off the wheels. It'll be a fun project!

Rather than prolonging this thread until every wheel combination is covered, perhaps it would be more useful to refer the original poster to a visual wheel and car simulator such as the one at Tire Rack

If anyone knows of other/better simulators, please let us know.

Cheers

Graham

What about these: They are Kinesis SuperCup RS wheels with the centers painted Porsche Stone Gray Metallic.

This ain't too shabby IMHO. They are light weight as well, supposedly lighter than the hollow turbo wheels, MY2002 996 wheels.

I love the polished look - I have Targa wheels on my coupe, and if I had the money to blow, I'd have them polished in a heartbeat. Someone else posted pics where they did this to their Targa wheels, and I have a stain on my shirt from the excessive drool.

About the wall clock - excellent idea. I'm doing the same with my used brake rotors. I had them media blasted to get the rust off. The guys at the shop that did the work were very curious about what car the rotors came from. I'm finishing the design of the clock face, and will post pics when it's all done. I designed the numbers using a pic of my tachometer, and used the same hash mark sizes also. I'm hoping to finish the file this afternoon and take it to Kinko's to have them print it out. I'm making 2 right now, and one will be a gift for a brake engineer friend of mine.

993 with MY 2002 993 Wheels, sweet!!!! They are OEM from BBSD and cheap, less than $2,000 and they are about the same weight as the hollow turbo wheels.

I may be forced (due to an accident) to replace my turbo hollow spokes with a 3-piece modular wheel. I've been studying, taking trips to Wheel Enhancements, and trying to figure out what I want. I'm getting very serious about the Simmons OM wheels offered by www.groupawheels.com (I have no affiliation). They can make up a set for my turbo (in 18x8.5, 18x11) with gold centers (my car is Arena Red) for under $2600, and they are quite lightweight. Anybody have any thoughts about this?

BTW, there are some BBS LeMans wheels for a widebody on eBay right now.
